We often stop by this daily used book sale at Piazza di San Cosimato in #Rome. All titles are in #Italian, but we just look at the pictures and tell the story as we know it or make it up. Later, we'll leave the books in the book box at the local playground. Win-win-win!

I love #picturebooks with #poetry. In this book about an #explorer, who has traveled the world, but never seen a whale, the prose appeals equally to children and adults. There are no frilly nursery rhymes here, just engaging storytelling told in verse, which both my kids at age 5 and 2 enjoy. The illustrations are gorgeous and the intentional use of white space impress the littleness of Mr. Miniscule in the vast world. A new bedtime favorite!

Mr Miniscule was half the height
of a coffee bean, no more,
but still he loved to travel,
but still he loved to explore.

With his vessel finally ready,
he boarded a butterfly plane
and off he went to the seashore,
then fluttered down again.

When in #Rome... the Almost Corner Bookshop in Trastevere is one of a handful English-language bookstores in Rome, and I always make sure to pay a visit. They have a very small, but highly curated selection of books for children and today I walked away with four titles! Not sure who's more excited - the kids or me 🤗
