I used to think I didn‘t like the fantasy genre, but then I realized that I just didn‘t like the old school traditional fantasy genre. Give me sassy reluctant protagonists who have absolutely no time for your bullshit, and I love it!

Not to mention Elizabeth Evans is a great narrator. Anybody else have a fave audiobook narrator?

I‘m in the middle of a move, so I‘ve been listening to this while packing, and wow! Loved the characters and found the world building and magic system that Novik created fascinating.

I loved the writing style and the characters, however it was a little too post-apocalyptic for my taste. I felt so much time was spent on developing that post apocalyptic world that the novel didn‘t delve as much into the multiverse concept that drew me to it in the first place. While Space Between Worlds may not have been my cup of tea exactly, I do intend to read whatever Johnson writes next. #BOTM

An overall enjoyable read. The main character is great and the incorporation of various mythologies is interesting. I‘ve usually found Gaiman‘s novels incredibly interesting conceptually, but found the endings unsatisfying due to lack of pay off for the climax that‘s been building throughout the novel. American Gods was a more satisfying ending than any of the others I‘ve read. Not perfect, but not anticlimactic enough to ruin the story.

I might be on a time travel kick...

A delightful satire that will remind you of every time a beanie bedecked guy in your lit class complained the professor never assigned anything good “like Bukowski”.

I LOVED this book! Miller is a very talented author with a distinctive but not distracting voice. I loved the commentary & dissection of Greek myths thru the eyes of Circe. She‘s a wonderfully nuanced lead, and I immediately became captivated by her journey. But the great characters don‘t stop there. Miller breathes life into a sprawling supporting mythological cast that can feel dry & 1 dimensional in other texts. I can‘t recommend it enough.

Listening to one of my faves while I do chores. I was never really big on audio books (which is surprising given my love of podcasts) but that may be changing...

Overall, I would say I enjoyed this novel. For the most part, it was well-paced, the protagonist was flawed but likeable, and I found the general premise and world building to be strong.

However, there was something about the romance plot that didn‘t quite land for me. It seemed rushed toward the end and characters‘ reactions were extreme. The ending in general was too neat, and I wanted more payoff for the climactic set up going into the finale.

If you‘re a classic movie fan, I cannot recommend these two books enough. They talk about the types of roles actors and actresses received before the implementation of the Hays Code in 1934 and how the rise of Hollywood censorship changed these roles and the landscape of film in general.

I‘ve always maintained that your favorite Irving novel is the one you read first because it‘s the first time you experience just how powerful and emotional fictional stories can be.

Does this hold true for anyone else?

For my first quarantine read, I wanted something odd, and boy did this book deliver. It‘s both funny & dark, & much of what happens is never fully explained. But that‘s also the charm of it. We as the reader only know what the characters know and let‘s face it, neither John nor David are the smartest or most reliable narrators. However something about them and the memorable supporting characters is still endearing enough to keep you invested.
