A candy cane book stack and a Christmas gonk just because! #bookstack #candycanebookstack #christmasgnome
I rated this one a 3⭐️ As it was a good easy book to read but not edge of your seat kind of gripping.
I read this in one sitting and enjoyed it. This book is about a mortuary technician (Cassie). She went back to college and got qualifications due to a woman she did not know encouraging her, who was then her teacher. The teachers ends up deceased and story is about how it looks accidental but she doesn‘t think it was.
5 🌟 from me! I loved this books. Twists and turns and I loved getting the full explanation of events at the end. I love Sophie Hannah‘s work and this book didn‘t disappoint at all! #bookworm #tbr #haventtheygrown
I really enjoyed this. Definitely a pick for me. This is a thriller that is not far from life. It is about a house that is effectively run by a computer. It controls EVERYTHING in the house. I liked that this started straight away with the family moving house. It explained signs that the computer could take control without being hacked. It have hints and I could see where the story could go but not the characters involved. I enjoyed it. #bookworm
I‘m a quarter of a way through this book and I‘m loving it! I‘m noticing things that I think will be important later and I‘m looking forward to seeing where it goes. #tbr #readersfirst #arc #bookworm #bookflatlay
I haven‘t started Eve of Man yet but I liked the picture I took of my orange/red/gold coloured books. I recently received Eve of Man in a book swap and can‘t wait to get started. #bookflatlay #colourfulbooks #tbr
A book based in a bookshop. What‘s not to love? Fellow book lovers and clues in books. It still contains other content from a thriller and a twist or two. Plus the whodunnit at the end! It‘s a pick for me! #midnightatthebrightideasbookstore
Loved this book! I‘d seen the film and when I came across the book at the book barn I snatched it up! I read it in a couple of hours. I‘ve read a few books by Ira Levin now and enjoyed then all. #iralevin #bookflatlay
I enjoyed the first book, STAGS so had to read this. I enjoyed the style of writing even though it was quite simple. It‘s one of those books where you don‘t have to think loads about it.
I was good the way the story continued on from the first and I imagine there will be a third and I would read it. Its a good story but an easy read and I would recommend this book and the first one.
I read this book within four hours! The story started off a bit slow. It explained the background and introduced all the characters and this was needed for the story but maybe just a bit quicker. Once the story got going it did not stop. There were false leads to who the affair could be with and when you thought you know, you were wrong again. It involves characters I did not expect it to and it had an ending I didn‘t expect.
To escape her past, Anna takes a job at a hotel on the remote Scottish island of Rum, but when seven guests join her, what started as a retreat from the world turns into a deadly nightmare.
Each of the guests have a secret, but one of them is lying – about who they are and why they're on the island. There's a murderer staying in the Bay View hotel. And they've set their sights on Anna.
Seven strangers. Seven secrets. One deadly lie.
Still ongoing at the moment but loving it so far
I would give this a 3.5/5. I read Don‘t Make a Sound by David Jackson and I really enjoyed this but it was not as good. There was just something missing. It was written well and kept me interested. The book didn‘t get boring at any point and kept me interested. The way the story ended was good. It has provided a resolution to this story but left the back story open for more books to follow. I will definitely read more by this author.
I absolutely loved this book. Jack Jordan has written another great story. I‘d say better then his last book. I couldn‘t put it down and didn‘t suspect the ending. Really enjoyed it and will definitely read more by this author.
I read The Dark Lake by Sarah Bailey and really enjoyed it so I had to read this ASAP!
The writing style was the same good standard again. The book was easy to read and had a good plot. It took some time to get in to the story but it was not dull in any way. I found that I was getting through the book really quickly and read it in two sittings.
It‘s not because the book is bad in anyway but it is just missing something.
3.5 stars!
I‘m giving this a 3⭐️ as I enjoyed it and I didn‘t. It addresses some important subjects (homelessness, drink, drugs and family breakdowns) but the main character is a brat and the other children don‘t react in s normal way either. It‘s for some and not others.
Everyone needs to read this book! People need to see what our emergency services go through. I work for the police and know what it‘s like for us so it‘s great to read from the NHS point of view.
Second in the series and as the first, I read it in a few hours. I could wait to see where it was going to go and now I‘ve got to wait for the third as it‘s not out for a couple of months. It is suitable for all ages. It‘s probably aimed at younger people as it is about teenagers but as an adult I enjoyed it.
I loved this. It was an easy read but interesting. It‘s thriller, romance and betrayal. Not my usual. I just read it in one sitting. I was glad to have the second in the series to start straight away!
My 4th book of 2019 is one I got from The Works on 3 books for Qd. Bargain! I‘ve never read anything by this author before so it will be interesting to see what her writing style is like. It‘s nice to try new authors. Plus I love the cover!
I‘d give this a 4/5. I really enjoyed it. It was an easy read. I read it in 2 sittings. It‘s about a woman wanting revenge against her ex husband and it was interesting to see what she did next. It highlighted that domestic abuse Is not just physical. Definitely worth a read!
Loving this so far. I decided to read this after reading Caraval and wanted to keep with the fantasy theme. It isn‘t disappointing! Can‘t wait to see how it ends.
When I started this book I didn‘t know what to expect. I‘ve never read a book that is Norse Mythology and mixed with ghosts and romance.
I enjoyed the book. It wasn‘t so heavy on the mythology that it was boring and the romance wasn‘t so in your face it was teenagerish. It had a mixture of all and was told well. I would not rush out for more by this author but if there was a sequel to this book I would read it to see how it is developed further.
As soon as I started the book I didn‘t want to put it down! The story was great. It went back and forward to explain different parts and it was good. It didn‘t confuse things. It was well written. I have to say, I didn‘t see what was coming until close to the end. I was just so enthralled I just wanted to read the next page. I recommend this book. I liked the blurb but it was better than I imagined it would be. I will read more by this author.
A few of my Orwell‘s. All time favourite books is Nineteen Eighty-Four. I love it. My father in law gave me the other 3 and there are more on the way. Can‘t wait to get stuck in!
I read this a few years ago. It‘s rare that I keep single books (where I don‘t collect the author) I less they are dystopia which is my favourite genre. I did with this book as I enjoyed it so much. Will one day I may re-read but so many books, so little time...
I arrived home from work at midnight to find my father in law came round earlier and left me a book to read. He knows I‘m an Orwell fan and I haven‘t read this one. I am looking forward to it. It‘s fine on my massive to be read pile. It may be a while until I get round to it!
The opening chapter to this book drew me in immediately. It is not even a full page but it was enough to grab my attention. The story was good. It was well written. I think there was some missed potential. I think they could have gone more in to the religion and practices used.
The book is quite long and it was quite drawn out. There was more action at the end. . I would recommend his book but I think it had some missed opportunities.
This is the first chapter of my current read. I was literally drawn in from the get to. I‘m enjoying it so far! Blurb: The Cornish village of St Petroc is the sort of place where people come to hide. Tom Killgannon is one such person. An ex-undercover cop, Tom is in the Witness Protection Programme hiding from some very violent people and St Petroc's offers him a chance to live a safe and quiet life. Until he meets Lila.
I really enjoyed this book. It is written really well and the plot develops nicely. There are not big parts that are unnecessary. It flows. It has a great twist at the end so although you may think it is probably predictable, it isn‘t. It highlights social status differences and has old traditions and also some modern elements. It is an easy going read that I read in one sitting. I just did not want to put it down! 5* read.
As soon as I started reading this book I was gripped. It automatically drew me in to find out what whispered to the deceased woman and why the detective was hiding how close they were. As the story progresses it doesn‘t give too much away at once. The main character is not portrayed as some damaged woman, but as a woman with a past and issues going on in her personal life without it taking over the story. I enjoyed this all the way through.
5* read! As soon as I started the first chapter I knew it was going be a good book! I had read the blurb and had a rough idea where it was going but the pace picked up so quickly and more happened than expected. I like that the book was narrated from multiple characters and not one main character. It was difficult to read how a child had actually settled enough to help others and it is not even far fetched in this day. I was hooked from the start.
I give this story four stars. It was a good story and well done for a first book.
The plot deals with some very difficult and dark themes; abuse, drugs, abortion and suicide. All of these topics are dealt with empathy and understanding. There is no glamourising or exaggeration. The suspense about the secrets is kept throughout the book, we are drip fed clues throughout and it ends really well. I would read more by this author!
It is about an ex MI6 agent and the digital world and the dark net (the hidden part of the internet used for bad things and which intrigues me!). The book moves between continents and has the characters working together. The M16 Agent and Lucy work together to stop the hackers. I really enjoyed the story. The blurb didn‘t do it as much for me as the others in the series but it wasn‘t an issue when I stated reading. I would recommend the series.
This is a story of a mother/wife who is also a covert operative for the Secret Service. She comes back from maternity leave & put on a mission to get close to the wife of her target, a Russian oligarch. I enjoyed the book. It was an easy read & it didn‘t take much thinking but I didn‘t find myself rushing to pick it up. It was written well & it is a good 1st novel. This can become a series as it it left resolved but an option for more books.
It is not very often I don‘t finish a book. In all of the years I have been reading (my entire life), I have only ever not finished two books. Until now. The blurb sounded good. I started reading it and just didn‘t get drawn in. I did not feel invested about the characters and found I didn‘t care what happened. The book was not written badly as such. Reading other reviews, it starts jumping back and forward. I didn‘t get that far unfortunately.
1) The police were outside again last night. 2) 339. 3) Independence. 4) Bart. 5) Black. 6) Psychological thriller. 7) Well-being and nodded. 8) Black. 9) S I. 10) None. 11) 2017. 12) Mark Billingham. 13) No. 14) No.
Just started this and a few chapters in am finding it‘s a nice quick easy read. I love relaxing with a book. Oh and a box of Jaffa Cakes! Happy times!
Absolutely loved this book. I‘m massively in to the whole spy genre and I really enjoyed this. I wanted to read it before I saw the film and it didn‘t disappoint. I‘ve bought the next in the series. If you like a good spy story and Russian espionage then this is the book for you.
