The Giving Tree | Shel Silverstein
post image

"I wish that I could give you something... but I have nothing left. I am an old stump. I am sorry..."
"I don't need very much now," said the boy, "just a quiet pleace to sit and rest. I am very tired."
"Well," said the tree, straightening herself up as much as she could,
"well, an old stump is a good for sitting and resting. Come, Boy, sit down. Sit down and rest."
And the boy did.
And the tree was happy. #UCFLAE3414sp17

The Kissing Hand | Audrey Penn
post image

One of my favorite books when I was a kid. I remember first reading this in kindergarten and my teacher gave each of the students little hearts to hold while we read the story. http://themes.atozteacherstuff.com/83/the-kissing-hand-first-day-activities/ #UCFLAE3414sp17

DrSpalding A teacher I know made a scavenger hunt finding "kisses" in different places around the school! 8y

"The pumpkin was pied by Mrs. Ben. The case was solved. Good work, men! The bear detectives have done it again!" https://youtu.be/WbePEI5lxkg #UCFLAE3414sp17

DrSpalding The Berenstain Bears have classic stories that provide valuable lessons to children. Good choice. Genre? 8y
Riley.Clayson Love the Berenstain Bears! 8y
katelynn_lawson I used to watch the series growing up and I am most definitely a fan. 8y

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is probably one of the most well known children's books and it's a great one! I love the illustrations and the science connection with the caterpillar turning into a butterfly. My book has some wear and tear but still one of my favorites. http://m.twinkl.co.uk/resources/the-very-hungry-caterpillar #UCFLAE3414sp17

sarahs Classic! Loved this story as a kid, great for use in the classroom. 8y
LaurenMcl One of those books that I have read/heard what feels like millions of times and never gets old. It is just a GREAT book! 8y
DrSpalding True classic! Great read aloud! Makes for a great storytelling too! 8y

They say you can't judge a book by its cover but I did with this book. The story turned out to be great too! http://www.wheelndealmama.com/if-you-give-a-moose-a-muffin-lesson-plans/ #UCFLAE3414

DrSpalding If you checked this out from the CMC, they tend to remove book jackets. This is one of Numeroff's many circle stories that began with If You Give a Mouse a Cookie! Children love these books. 8y
katelynn_lawson I think the cover is super sweet and simple. This caught my eye more than a book jacket would. 8y

I hadn't read this book before but I was asked to read it in my service learning and I thought it was so cute! I love how it shows the different shapes of all sorts of things and how the book is comprised of silhouettes. https://www.education.com/lesson-plan/the-shape-of-me-and-other-stuff/ #UCFLAE3414sp17

AmberC I think children will enjoy the unique drawings, with also being able to link the book to math concepts with the lesson plan. 8y
DrSpalding I have not seen this one. I like the idea of using books to teach other content areas like math and shapes. 8y

All Alone in the Universe | Lynne Rae Perkins
post image

"My dance on the pedestal was my friendship with Maureen. I wasn't sure how I had lost my balance and fallen off. Or whether I was pushed. Everyone around me was trying to get me to dance again. The thing was, I hadn't quite given up on getting back up there. I still believed it was the only place where I could be happy." http://www.readworks.org/passages/alone-universe #UCFLAE3414sp17

DrSpalding Read works is another great resource. You need to create a free account to access their materials. This is a good idea for all of your peers! 8y

"When the Star-Belly Sneetches had frankfurter roasts or picnics or parties or marshmallow toasts, they never invited the Plain-Belly Sneetcches. They left them out cold, in the dark of the beaches. They kept them away. Never let them come near. And that's how they treated them year after year." http://www.tolerance.org/lesson/anti-racism-activity-sneetches #UCFLAE3414sp17

sarahs Love the stuffed animal that would be awesome to incorporate the story telling a we did in class with props! 8y
DrSpalding The tolerance site is a valuable site to use as a resource. I love that you have the Kohl's book and plush! 8y
