Nice to get things wrapped up with Agnes and Baby Nicole, but I didn‘t connect with the book until the end. Basically you take the complex character of Aunt Lydia and have her own story reduced to speculation or a ploy as 1 of many hypotheses about her - contrast that with how much power she wielded over girls - and the power of the individual is lost to academia arrogance. I think this shows that we WONT in fact learn the lessons of history.
Both numb & angry at times - nothing seems shocking or surprising at this point given I feel de-sensitized to men in power doing very bad things and getting away with it for so long — it‘s it‘s in our face everyday. Given Weinstein‘s recent conviction, all of it makes it “easier” to digest knowing that justice will be served - sort of - because how many actresses or their films did we miss out on because this asshole was calling the shots.
Fantastic book that I have used for my archaeology courses this fall, and for a book club event I hosted. If you are interested at all in indigenous rights and examining issues with museum collections this book is for you - it‘s well-written, and tells stories from multiple perspectives.
This was an easy book to chew though - a page-turner that picks up where the show leaves off to find the murderer of Daisy Clayton. Love this new book from Michael Connelly; a nice blend of Bosch and Ballard‘s perspective. I love the real, raw struggle of Ballard‘s reality of being a woman in a male-dominated field.
I get to meet Ta-Nehisi Coates on Thursday! So this is how I‘m spending part of my Friday evening.
As a kid of the 80s, I have always been fascinated with Chernobyl; now, I get a chance to read all of the horrific details. I just picked this up on a dark, heavy snow night at the Boulder Bookstore on Pearl and I‘m diving in.
After meeting Jane Harper this evening, I‘m starting her new book, The Lost Man, set in an remote area of Australia near Queensland. Much like The Dry and Force of Nature, this is a suspense/crime novel set in a harsh landscape... except this time, we meet new characters - No Aaron Falk in this one!
A must-read before the series hits Amazon Prime. And squeezing in a recreational read before the Spring semester begins.
Definitely need a beer and sunshine with this book. About half way through... we must catch the GSK! #truecrime #murderino
My hometown murder, in Jackson Township, Ohio; this book is an account of the horrors that took place in the Sexton household, just down the street from me. Sexual abuse, fetal sacrifices, and other weird cult shit is not for the faint of heart but perfect for a #murderino #myfavoritemurder #ssdgm Eddie Lee Sexton will haunt your dreams.
I‘m finishing this gem up now - I love how accurately this portrays what it‘s like to be a woman in the field sciences, juxtaposed beautifully with a both touching and brutal tale of what it might have been like to be a female Neanderthal. #archaeology #womeninscience
Ah, Kate Bender, of the Bloody Benders of Kansas. #ladykillers #myfavoritemurder @bridge12
