An ugly, gritty, beautiful contemporary teen fiction title about love, fate, and friendship ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5
Cheesy and predictable but still a fun, light read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3/5
Reminded me a lot of The Night Circus. Not quite as atmospheric or fully realized, but fun. Two enchanters in a magical game of creation and survival. Listened to the audiobook, and Steve West is amazing as a narrator.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3/5
A great sequel (despite being a smidgen slow). Tahir continues to develop fabulous characters, switching between perspectives flawlessly. The tension builds with Elias and Laia on the run, war brewing, and ancient nightmares resurfacing.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5
Anna and the French Kiss meets My Girl 2 (otherwise known as a great contemporary teen romance for the summer). Not only do you get to fall in love with Florence, Italy, but a part of you might fall in love in Florence, Italy (and not just with the gelato).
"The worst part about her new chambers was that all these wardrobes and vanities and drapes meant there was no space - none at all - for a bookcase. Who on earth would feel comfortable enough to sleep in a room with no books?" (Pg 203)
Not even the fabulous audiobook reader, Moira Quirk, could save this one for me. Dinah wasn't nearly as interesting as I had hoped she would be. I waited and waited for something to actually happen, but alas, nothing ever really did. Bummer, because the setting was decent.
