Found myself a work-life balance this first full week back at school; a new year with my new students! “Primitive men would have been fine with the sun going around the earth, but it takes a woman to know that life revolves around the moon.” #girlpower

I‘m about halfway through this novel that may be my last one of the summer (😭) as school starts up again in about a week and a half. Truly engulfed in this story. Another story about being different and in hiding while the foreboding threat of society‘s ostracism looms overhead. Our main character does not age, and he‘s been alive for centuries. His current role: history teacher 😵😝

I‘ve sped through this book. I frickin LOVE Mindy. She is the most relatable human on this planet, at least for me. In college in one of my Lit courses, my professor was sweet as pie and wicked smart, but she assigned The Winter‘s Tale. After our class basically told her it was terrible and we didn‘t want to read it, she AMAZINGLY let us drop it off the syllabus. Mindy is me. 💞

AileenRR Mindy is my favorite 💖 6y

Came home to visit my parents on the north fork of Long Island and very much looking forward to finishing this novel up on the beach. I was hooked after one chapter, but I‘m 3/4 finished and did that mostly yesterday. Here‘s to another great read this summer!

Mehso-so

Very fast read; it‘s more a short story than a novel which I didn‘t recognize when I borrowed the eBook. The ending was kind of disappointing, but I guess it leaves it up to the reader to decide. BUT I‘m not a cliffhanger gal, I like to know exactly how a story ends 🤷🏽‍♀️

Page 13 of this story and our narrator sure knows how to grab our attention! 😬😳

Jess7 Yep! 🤣 I enjoyed this novella/short story, but I love Flynn‘s other books - especially sharp objects! 6y

I so wish that I could incorporate this into my curriculum to pair with To Kill a Mockingbird or to follow it. Given the cultural climate we live in today and that I work in a small town in upstate NY, it would provide a perspective that they won‘t get on their own. This novel is real, but balanced, and remains hopeful throughout. Worth a read 💯 and worth a share! 💞

Pickpick

Britt-Marie Was Here did not disappoint! She‘s one of those characters that is beyond irritating, but is damaged beyond what you‘d expect. She has so many layers and when given the chance to go out of her comfort zone, the real Britt-Marie is able to shine. Still quirky, but by the end in an absolutely endearing way. I was rooting for Britt-Marie at the end of My Grandmother Asked Me To Tell You She‘s Sorry and this spin-off gave me what I needed.

I mean, wow. I‘m almost halfway through and this is more intense than I thought I was getting into. It‘s a perspective both sides of police brutality should read. That‘s the thing about books; through reading them and meeting characters that differ from ourselves, we build and strengthen our compassion, empathy, and understanding of our world. This is important.

Just messing around here familiarizing myself with the features of the app, but really digging this! My talents include making coffee and Axl‘s talent is being chill AF.

Very conflicted about this one. TKAM is my absolute all time favorite. Is it a prequel? Doubt it. Is it a first draft? Very likely. Was this the story Lee intended to tell? Not sure. Either way, I can‘t say I loved it, but I‘m glad I forced myself to finish. Would love thoughts and a conversation about this one from anyone that may have read both TKAM and this one.

I have to say, I did not think that this novel was going to be what it ended up being. I loved it, I cried, and I can‘t wait to read the next novel that focuses on Brit-Marie. A great read about the complexities within people and their relationships from the perspective of a very unique little girl. As Granny would day, only different people can change the world.

One of the first books of the summer. Loved it, especially that the ending wasn‘t exactly how you‘d imagine it.
