Keith Richards is 75 today. Here's to his next 75 years.

Bklover Wow. That makes me feel OLD. 👵🏻 6y
Adam86uk @Bklover To be fair, I'm 32 and Keith Richards makes me feel old 😂 6y

Reading Don Quixote whilst listening to Spanish guitar just feels so damn right!

Tanisha_A I would like to listen to some Spanish guitar too. That playlist looks nice 6y
Adam86uk @Tanisha_A I love Spanish and Classical guitar. Ok put.it on when I can't sleep, on low volume :) 6y
CoffeeNBooks I'm getting ready to read some more of this book. I've been participating in an 8-week buddy read, and we have 1 week left! I should listen to some Spanish guitar music while I'm reading tonight! 🎶 6y

Adam86uk Oh god, you better get reading. Spanish guitar definitely helps haha! I just need a scented candle that smells of donkeys and misadventure now :) 6y

1. Learn French and do Christmas shopping... oh God.. S'il vous plaît Dieu! 😫
2. Read Don Quixote and change guitar strings. The second one won't happen. Ever, possibly.
3. Do cheese and crackers count? If so, them.
4. Litsy updates and tobacco health warnings.

The most sinister cover that I have ever owned... Amazing book though! Had to Google a few words, but really enjoyed it! Dante Alighieri had one seriously twisted imagination!

Excellent. Dark, gothic, unique fantasy story about a murderous misanthrope with a gifted sense of smell. I can't think of any other books that are remotely similar to this. 5 stars.

AlaSkaat I really liked this one. It might have only been the edition I had but it had so many goddamn mistakes it nearly put me off. Such a strange book, fitted nicely with my strange mind😐 6y
Adam86uk @OleAnder You didn't have an ebook version did you? I quite often find mistakes with them. It is definitely one of the strangest things I've ever read haha. Fun fact: It was Kurt Cobain's favourite book. 6y
AlaSkaat @Adam86uk No, it was a physical copy which made it worse! Oh, Scentless Apprentice! I forgot about that actually 6y

Adam86uk @OleAnder Oh, that's no good! Yeah that's it, the book is better than the song admittedly 😂 6y
AlaSkaat @Adam86uk The book is always better!! Haha 6y
Adam86uk @OleAnder Never judge a book by its movie... or song in this case 🤣 6y
AlaSkaat @Adam86uk Never judge a book at all if you've not read it! Hahah 6y
TheBookStacker I heard they‘re making it into a tv series 6y
Adam86uk @TheBookStacker Really? I'd watch that! I've actually just remembered that it was also a film, I haven't seen it but apparently it's quite good. 6y

"The tragedy of old age is not that one is old, but that one is young" — Oscar Wilde

Omaidk91 Absolutely. That's so well said!! We are unable to do the things we could do when we were young. So the inner, forever young soul feels despair!! 6y
Adam86uk @Omaidk91 Yeah, that's pretty much a perfect description! :) 6y
Omaidk91 And oh, a good reminder.. I have to finish reading this book! 6y

This is the most incredible book I've ever read.

I may write a proper review at some point, but I fear it would itself be the size of a large novel.

*Edit*
Try and persevere through the first 100 pages if you decide to read this. It can be quite confusing with all the nicknames and characters to start with. The rule of thumb is: "if you think that it might be the same person, it probably is." There's a lot of Marya/Masha, Natasha/Natalia etc.

Bklover Thank you! I‘m going to add it to my 2019 challenge. One of the things I love about Litsy is how it has encouraged me to read outside my normal. 6y
Adam86uk @Bklover I'm exactly the same. I'd never have picked this book up if I didn't keep seeing decent ratings. The same with a lot of the classics. 6y
MaGoose I read it about 45 years ago and remember my then much younger brain trying to keep everyone straight, but I remember liking it so much. I'll try rereading it again in the next few years. 6y

Adam86uk @MaGoose The first 10 chapters I thought "what am I doing...? I can't take another 1200 pages of this..", but then I guess it just clicks. The first war scene in 'part two' had me hooked. I will definitely read again in the future, probably with a different translation. 6y
Adam86uk ... Although if any could surpass the Anthony Briggs translation, I'll be more than pleasantly surprised! 6y
CarolynM It's a long time since I read it, but I enjoyed it enormously. It's actually surprisingly easy to read.🙂 6y
Adam86uk @CarolynM Yeah, I couldn't put it down. It's definitely one I'll read again some day. 6y

Omaidk91 Didn't know it was funny 6y
Adam86uk @Omaidk91 Yeah, it's a very funny book. Someone's nose gets broken with a loaf of bread for example.. 6y
Omaidk91 @Adam86uk hahaha. This is defo going into my tbr 6y
Adam86uk @Omaidk91 if you decide to get, I've heard that the John Rutherford, John Ormsby or Edith Grossman are the best translations. Some are, apparently, pretty bad. 6y
Omaidk91 Oh! That's really helpful! Thanks a lot! 6y
