AnnR It seems many of the characters have really strong (or overbearing) personalities so far. 2y
BarkingMadRead @Ann_Reads so many strong personalities! 2y
Bookwormjillk I kind of loved her but admit I zoned out when George went on for pages about her personality/background. Sir James was kind of funny too. Like when you fall flat on your face but realize nobody saw it so it doesn‘t hurt as bad. That‘s him and the Dodo non-proposal. 2y
Bklover @Bookwormjillk I think you nailed it. I kind of laughed at Mr Brooke‘s discomfort at having to talk to Codwallader. He does seem sort of uncomfortable with any sort of feminine energy, not to mention our lack of brains 🙄. Sir James certainly recovered quickly from the news of Dodo‘s engagement. Did anyone back then marry for love?? 2y
kspenmoll A nosy Parker! Well meaning? ! Ha. Or just wants to be in the know. I had to laugh when she rushed to tell Sr. James that Dodo was marrying that old C. I love the name: Codwallader. And putting a plug in for Celia… 2y
CoffeeNBooks Why was she so concerned with Dorothea marrying Chettam to begin with? Was it just her wanting to be successful at match-making? I can't see that she'd gain anything else from that union. I guess that's why she's aiming her sights on Celia as a match for him now. And could Mr. Brooke say any more times how very little our lady-brains can handle?! 😳 It's like he has to constantly remind everyone how much smarter he is than everyone else. 😨 2y
ravenlee I‘m catching up now, and just snort-laughed at this exchange: “He has one foot in the grave.” “He means to draw it out again, I suppose.” 2y
julieclair @ravenlee Me too. I thought that exchange was hysterical! 2y
LitStephanie @ravenlee yes lots of good little jibes like that in this book. 2y
