Australia has seen more than its fair share of devastating fires so we understand exactly what you are all going through. Though we are currently in our fire season, we‘ve been fortunate to have a La Niña weather system which has brought much rain thank god. We hope the weather gods smile on you too soon. Rather than quote the entire book, I chose certain excerpts as a snapshot. Paired with You Will Not Have My Hate by Antoine Leiris,( which I reviewed years ago here), this book is a vivid, heartfelt, disturbing, gut wrenching, & heartbreaking tale of the terrorists attack in 2015 in Paris. In light of the revolution dethroning Bashar al-Assad, this reporting of the trial, its victims & its perpetrators, is a relevant & necessary read.

This is an earlier book by this Aussie author. I've now read several of his books. As with his others he takes events/ situations and using fiction spins a story that makes you think.
"5 days,3 unexploded bombs,and every truth of your life turned into a lie. What would you do?"

This book was incredibly well written, but sad and hard to get through. Read it for a book club but I think I‘m going to skip the discussion. With another anniversary coming up this week I‘m just glad I don‘t have to go into DC that day and my kids will be close by.

Starting this month‘s book club book. When they pick books like this it‘s very apparent that I am the oldest by 10 years. Not really something I enjoy reading about- I lived it.

“Listen” is a Dutch book that has won many literary prizes and I read as an audio. It‘s about a Dutch girl who becomes an au-pair in Paris in the early ‘90s. We also know it‘s a story about 2015, the year Paris was shook up by the Charlie Hebdo attack at the beginning of the year and suicide bombers in November. We know this but not what‘s the connection between them. An engaging read, I hope it will be translated!
