#AuldLangSpine About Me @monalyisha
-My partner Linda and I met at a party in Long Island that I almost didn't go to, and somehow, 14 years passed. The upper left pic is from a Halloween party this year, me as a deranged emoticon, points for ID'ing Linda's character (think early 2000s TV, and not usually painted blue)
-I know it looks like we have a 2-headed cat, but this is Jem (left) & Scout (right), brothers as cute and cuddly as they come 👇

Billypar Other stuff:
- I'm originally from PA not far from Philly
- I commute from NJ to NYC where I work for the state mental health agency as a project manager
-Proud uncle to a 6- and 8-year old: both are readers, and my niece is pretty voracious.
-Big music fan - we covered punk and garage rock in your post, but I also like hip hop, soul, jazz, and pop, among others.
-Birding is my favorite non-reading hobby. And birding in marshes especially.

Texreader Love this!! 14h
JamieArc @Billypar Have you read Questlove‘s books? Seems like they may be up your alley… 14h
monalyisha Hi Jemnscout (doesn‘t work quite as well as Samneric 👑🪰 — going for a literary classics mash-up & failing 😅)! 13h
monalyisha I get those bonus points because I immediately thought, “I blue myself.” Fantastic/hilarious costume. Very committed! 13h
monalyisha So cool that your nieces are readers! If you ever need book recommendations, I offer myself as their librarian-by-proxy. 🤓 13h
monalyisha I *wish* birding was my thing! And marshes are such a cool environment! Maybe one day? I‘m honestly SO BAD at seeing small wildlife even when it‘s directly pointed out to me. I blame my terrible eyesight (but I fear it might just be me). It‘s a skill, for sure! 13h
Billypar @JamieArc I actually haven't yet, but they're on my list - I've listened to his podcast for years. I have read his band mate's book, which I really liked. 12h
JamieArc @Billypar Ha! I was also going to mention Upcycled. I got it for my husband a couple of years ago and he liked it. Also, if you ever get the chance to go to southern AZ, it‘s great for birding. I happened to be there and a friend took me birding. It was a really cool experience. 12h
Billypar @monalyisha I only read LotF a year or two ago for the first time, but I still had to look up that reference. There's got to be some kind of listical for literary pet sibling names right?
And re: the costume guess, that totally counts 🫂
12h
Billypar @monalyisha I might take you up on the kid- books recommendation offer. Even though my nephew reads now, I could see him falling out of it if he doesn't keep finding books he can get excited enough about. 12h
Billypar @monalyisha The good news about birding is I think it's a very learnable skill. My friend got me into it, and I'm nowhere close to her skills at id'ing by sight or calls, but I still learned enough to make it fun to do, without having any obvious natural ability 🐦🦅 12h
Billypar @JamieARC The only time I visited AZ was before my birding hobby started, so I missed that aspect. I would love to visit again though, so I'll keep that in mind! 11h
BarbaraBB Very nice to learn a bit more about you 🤍 11h

Pickpick

An interspersed, day-by-day look at how one 2018 Jonah Hill SNL episode got made wakes up a somewhat standard biography of a mysterious broadcast king. Perhaps it‘s no surprise, but the highlight of the book is a chapter titled “Saturday,” with exciting reporting and fascinating candid quotations from the room of writers, performers and one decisive producer as they move closer to the thrill of being live from New York.

Pickpick

This was an intriguing audio. It‘s classified as Science Fiction but I didn‘t think of it as Sci-Fi. The characters are brought to a compound in a desert to be filmed for a reality tv show. As time goes on and players are sent home, antics are upped, and trust begins to dwindle.I was most interested in how the game changed the characters personalities and thought processes over time spent within the compound. Kinda creepy.

A low pick or high so-so. It was fine but I think any boredom or “meh” I feel about it has to do with what I thought it would be vs what it actually was. I wanted more dystopia and climate fiction, and while there are *nods* to those things in here, that‘s not what this is. Rather, it‘s a commentary on reality TV, what‘s real vs what the media wants you to see, and corporate sponsorship of entertainment. It‘s fine-even enjoyable-but WHY…

intothehallofbooks …is the desert on fire and what is the war about? Where is the setting, and when? What do the viewers and producers of the show think about what went on in the house? I would have enjoyed some outside perspective. (edited) 3d

This #ISpyBingo board was submitted by @LiseWorks !! I just typed it up for her 😁 For this board, instead of looking for items on the cover, you'll be looking for books that fit each prompt. Thank you for creating this board, Lise!!!

ElizaMarie This is great! I love the idea of this for a challenge next year.

And on number 4 one of my fun facts (not on my list) is that I got married at the chapel at the Tower of London - starting marriage where Anne Bolyn is allegedy buried may not be auspicious but we seem to be holding on in! 2d
Born.A.Reader @Itchyfeetreader That is such a neat fact! One day I'd like to make it over to England, and the Tower is on my list to visit. Medieval England is my favorite era within historical fiction. 2d

I love finding autographed memoirs at thrift stores, especially when they‘re signed to me! 😉 I‘m also a M*A*S*H fan & even visited the actual set for a press party way back when.
Mike a.k.a “B.J. Hunnicutt” shared wonderful stories about the many cast members who became close friends. It also warmed my heart to learn that Mike has been a fierce activist for human rights, social justice & righting the many wrongs he‘s seen across the globe.🙌🏻💙
