I'm watching Star Trek VI with friends on Monday. I love Grace Lee Whitney in that film.

Growing up, one of my weekly TV viewing highlights were the repeats of 'Moonlighting' shown on British tv. The quick wit back-&-forth between David Addison & Maddie Hayes was a treat, until they brought Bert Viola onto the scene. I decided to read Shepherd's autobiography on a whim & it was OK.

'Moonlighting' itself takes up a very small part in the book (a couple of chapters at the most) & the majority of it is about Shepherd's love life.

OutsmartYourShelf I agree with her about the dearth of onscreen roles for women of a certain age, & her refusal to be shamed for not living her life how she was expected to was refreshing to read, but the revolving door of men got old very quickly.

It started to feel just a bit tawdry after a while, & I cannot believe that she was annoyed with the estranged wife of one man for not wanting her on set

OutsmartYourShelf I mean, you had an affair with her husband & he left her for you, why would you think she wants to see your face every day? Still, you lose them how you get them.

What a wonderful time. ☺️ While the 'choose your own adventure' format is somewhat modified for the audiobook, I love how it was done, and I would not want to pass up the chance to listen to Neil Patrick Harris narrating the majority of the book. The little missives from friends and acquaintances peppered throughout are in a different narrators voice, but they're almost more hilarious for being read in a deadpan 'straight-man' style 1/?

Robotswithpersonality 2/? by a generic sounding old British guy voice. In keeping with a man who's gone from Doogie to Harold and Kumar to Dr. Horrible, there are moments of broad and even raunchy humour, but the overall tone is one of sincerity and gratitude. Harris obviously enjoys the work he does, from television and film to award show hosting and Broadway, finding it engaging and challenging and fulfilling, 1w
Robotswithpersonality 3/? but it's clear how much his happiness is due to the family he's made with the love of his life, David, and their kids. It's honestly just lovely to hear from someone who manages a life in show business without meteoric rises and pitfalls, which is not to say the book doesn't acknowledge the work projects that didn't go well, the journey to coming out publicly as gay. 1w
Robotswithpersonality 4/4 Maybe wholesome is in unwanted, saccharine attribute, but it comes pretty close to the overall vibe. If you need a boost, and enjoy bursting into laughter at the bus stop, I highly recommend. 1w

I really like Lauren Graham, so this was a wonderful audiobook. She talks about life, family, friendships, love, her acting career, the show Parenthood, and of course Gilmore Girls. I'm looking forward to listening to more of her books!

Naked Heat | Richard Castle

Pickpick

04/100 Castle has always been one of my favorite TV shows, so it was fun to return to the "alternate" version with Rook and Heat. I still prefer the pairing of Castle and Beckett to Rook and Heat, but both have their enjoyable qualities. Heat seems almost superhuman at times, too cool under pressure, less human than Beckett. All in all, a good mystery that kept me guessing until the end. 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Aims42 I loved watching Castle when it was airing every week. I haven‘t read any of the tie-in books, perhaps in 2025 I will! 👍 (edited) 2w
CaramelLunacy I loved Castle! I haven't read any of the tie-ins, but they sound fun. At the very least it is probably time for a rewatch! 1w
DogMomIrene I‘ve been rewatching Castle and I finally got to season 8, which I missed when it aired. I‘m only a couple of episodes in and talk about bananas! 1w

Murder, She Wrote: Coffee, Tea, or Murder? | Jessica Fletcher, Donald Bain

I enjoy these books more when George isn't in them. The quasi sort-of budding romance aspect feels too forced & not at all like Jessica to me.

This one's a January Book Bingo selection as well as part of a series (in fact, all the books I've read so far this month have been from different series ... never you mind how many are new series started lol).

Mehso-so

A high So-So verging on low Pick. For the most part, Leela, who narrates most of the chapters, is rendered well, but her knowledge of sailing ships is not plausible to me (those bits felt like “research“). I also found the story was told just enough out of order to be disorienting chronologically.
