so-soQuickly captivated by Shepherd's poetic prose. He has a clear ability of painting the surrounding, characters, dark seedy atmosphere of early nineteenth century London. A strong supernatural element carries the otherwise gritty detective mystery through; as it cleverly unfolds. However, I found the concluding final chapters slightly dissapointing and felt a little robbed of a great ending. All lose ends tied up but a little lacklustre.
