The Salt to the Sea is a beautifully written tragedy that weaves in historical information that is little known. I was captivated by the four main characters, wanting to know more of their stories and hoping for the best for each of them as they journeyed. Each character has a distinct voice, past and present woven into their stories in a way that makes your heart long to know them more.

This book is like a swift kick in the gut - eye opening to the atrocious acts happening in World War II to people fleeing, caught in between warring countries, and fighting to live. We often hear stories about concentration camps but not often about those caught in between Hitler and Stalin‘s power and control, fleeing for their lives. Heart wrenching. 😭

Salt to the Sea was a powerful book. It takes place at the end of WWII, written in super short chapters, only a few pages each, with alternating first person POVs, which made it easy to fly through. Each character had their own story, all meeting up on the Wilhelm Gustloff. One thing though, the romance felt very rushed. Despite that, this book (the ending especially) was deep and terrifyingly detailed, but still amazing and memorable.

😭😭😭😭 I started this book this minute and just finished. This book is very well done with four different narratives during world war 2. Have tissues by you as you read or listen to this book because it is a heart breaking novel with beautiful words. The characters were all connected some way and were just well done. I'm speechless.
