Well with the tagged book, we‘re locking in these numbers. Maybe 2024 NYE will be spent reading with drinks and popcorn, but alas, not 2023. Still a good year!
Here‘s to 2024 reading goals!

A YA novel in verse about the Zoot Suit Riots or as the author pointed out, the Sailor Riots in 1940‘s Los Angeles. I wasn‘t born yet but being Mexican and living in the suburbs of LA I‘ve always been aware of the riots and the Sleepy Lagoon murder. Was a nice change of pace to read something about this event from different perspectives.
HF novel in verse about the Zoot Suit Riots of 1943 in Los Angeles…but it should have been called Sailors‘ Riot. Jazz Owls refer to young Mexican women who toiled all day in the factories, then (night owls) stayed up to jazz dance with their zoot-suited friends, brothers, and boyfriends. One night the drunk & violent sailors brutalized the young men mercilessly. Of course the military denied reality, blaming the young dancers for starting it…
This book won the Kate Greenaway Medal. This book is about a man who comes home from a long trip to find out his parents have vanished. He is DETERMINED to search everywhere for them.
1. Tagged. Bought it yesterday on my favourite island bookstore. 🙂
2. Earthlings by Sayaka Murata
3. Wow, this is tough. ... Japan, Ireland, Costa Rica?
