Won the Asian/Pacific American Award (2021) - This book has great illustrations that I think really help portray the message of the book. Most books in this award seem to be for a slightly higher level like 4th and 5th grade.
EB White Read Aloud Award (2007) - This book is a great read. Talks lots about friendship and this is the type of book that you can read to any grade level and I feel like there will ALWAYS be a meaningful message.
Jane Addams Award Winner - This book was published January 23rd, 2015. This book is a very powerful book as well. It talks lots about Civil Rights and the experience of a family going through the times of the Jim Crow Laws. The character in the book got shoes handed down to her from her brother and she eventually has to adapt because they no longer fit her.
Jane Addams Book Award - Published August 28th, 2018. This is a very powerful book and I think everyone needs to read it. The message of this book is about people finding their place in the world. It may be a bumpy road and not everyone will see what or why your doing something but eventually if you speak your voice and pave yourself a path, you will definitely find your space in the world.
National Book Award - Published in 1981. I really like this book because it had tons of visuals. To me one of the most important things in books for younger kids is having that visual and allowing them to make connections and understand the book. Also the things throughout the book are going through the alphabet so it allows more conversation with the younger kids.
Published April 14th 2009. This is a very interesting book and there seems to be a lot going on. This character in the book does a lot of traveling to figure some things out such as a silver coin and throughout this traveling and finding experience she runs into many different things that affect her in different ways.
Published in 1973 — This book was later released as, “The Wizard Comes to Town” rather than “Mrs. Beggs and the Wizard”. A wizards comes into Mrs. Beggs house during this book and it turns out the Mrs. Beggs is a witch and she uses her powers and does some crazy things to shoo the wizard away.
Kate Greenaway Medal - Wolves was published on August 19th, 2005. This book is very interesting and is about a rabbit that goes to the library and leaves with a book about wolves. When he leaves he decides to read the book but it turns out it all comes to life and finds himself being followed by wolves.
Kate Greenaway Medal - Published October 2nd of 1995. In this book, a little boy lost a nativity set from his grandfather and has a person helping him find it or replace it with a new one. Memories are shared and I really like this book because its heart warming!

This book is a great read as it is related to a great friendship between a duck, squirrel and a cat. They were doing lots of things together such as cooking. Duck during the story is gone for awhile but finally reunites with the squirrel and the cat. I like this book because I think it talks lots about friendship and being caring for one another.
Coretta Scott King Award - Monster was a very good book. This book is a ‘banned‘ book but I really liked the plot through it all. A 16 year old boy (Steve) and his friend are put on trial for murder and robbery. Steve throughout the journey thought of the process as a ‘movie‘. Towards the end of the bool we find out that Steve was not guilty of his charges.
Stonewall Book Award — Published in April of 2018.
This book is pretty different but I think leaves off a strong message and can be really engaging if you have the time. The books message to me really just seemed to be a book about being seen who you truly are as a person from the people that you are surrounded by!

Charlotte‘s Web is an amazing book for all ages of children! The book does a wonderful of keeping students attention and the whole purpose behind this book is talking about how important ‘language‘ really is. Charlotte the spider does lots of things in this book that blow people away and really make people think about the power of language, in many different ways
Golden Kite Award - I think this book does a great of getting through to children and letting them know in their “terms” that THEY MATTER. I feel like the target audience here is towards people that feel insignificant & this book is here to help remind them and boost them to know that they matter and empower them to keep going. — Published on October 6th, 2020
Winner of V&A Award / Klaus Flugge Prize / World of Illustration Award — This helps students understand and pick up on emotions that are maybe not comfortable, & gives ideas on how to deal with them. Helps children to relate to one another and express how they are feeling about something.
Very great book to bring into a classroom in my opinion to let students know its okay, to not be okay. Talking to others can definitely make a difference!
Published in October of 2001, Martin‘s Big Words is a book that can help inform kid lots about civil rights. This book looks at the different aspects of MLK when he was young as well as when he was an older man. MLK is an extremely important man in history and getting the chance for young students to read this and understand a little in the early stages it think could really help them develop an understanding.
