Mary Stewart is a go-to when I need a comfort read, and this did not disappoint.

Mind Games | Nora Roberts

Pickpick

This thriller adds a paranormal element to the mix (as Roberts often does). Twelve-year-old Thea and her younger brother Rem always look forward to their summer two-week stay with their Grammie in the Appalachians of Kentucky while their parents take a couple vacation. However, a horrific event sees them permanently uprooted to live with Grammie. Thea, who has a “gift” that is not spoke of, discovers that this ability runs through her mother‘s ⬇️

robinb female line including her beloved Grammie. With this gift, Thea is able to identify a villain that she later discovers possesses the same skill. As he maneuvers to be released from prison, will Thea be able to thwart him and release herself from his mind games once and for all? I did enjoy this, especially the family aspect of Grammie, Thea and Rem and the love interest‘s (Ty) and his young son. However, the paranormal aspect got a bit confusing⬇️ (edited) 2d
robinb for me sometimes. Not to give anything away, but I found it complicating to figure out what could or could not be done with that skill. The storyline also did drag in certain spots.
Roberts is a master with suspense as well as drawing definitive characters, so in that sense, this one was a success. 4/5⭐️

Ice: A Novel | Linda Howard

Pickpick

This is an oldie that I picked up at a used book sale. I used to love reading Linda Howard and thought I‘d give this a try. An ice storm traps Lolly in her mountain home and the local sheriff sends Gabriel to warn her. When he arrives, he finds her in the middle of a home invasion. A quick read (less than 200 pages) about their survival against the villains and the Ice/snow. I‘d probably recommend reading this in the winter!!

Raven's Prey (Original) | Jayne Ann Krentz

Bailedbailed

Oomph. I usually really like Krentz‘s stories - a good mix of suspense and romance with sometimes a dash of magical realism - but this one, nope. Originally published in #1983 , let‘s just say that it would not be published now (thoughts in the comments - it‘s a massive TW):

I tried to listen to the whole story, but I just could not. Take my advice - don‘t bother with this one.

Librarybelle Within the first hour of listening, the lead MC claimed the female MC repeatedly begged him to rape her. Yes, he literally says he asked her to rape him. Yet, somehow, she decides a few days later to sleep with him. I don‘t get it. Even more, the next morning, he claims she is his now, he owns her. That was the last straw. Sorry JAK…this is my least favorite of yours. 3w
Librarybelle For sure, @dabbe ! 3w

Librarybelle @CaramelLunacy I kept hoping it would get better, or at least I had misheard. Nope! 2w

Identity | Nora Roberts

Pickpick

I‘ve only read a few Nora Roberts, but I noticed the was real similar to The Obsession thematically & with how the FMC & love interest interact. There are enough differences but I can see the formula, but she writes 4 books a year I would imagine it would be impossible not to.
Anyway, home improvement inspo, traumatized but coping FMC, lovable side characters & found family are met by Vermont mountains, the FBI & drink recipes you can almost taste
