Mehso-so

Clayton Stumper turned up in a hatbox on the fellowship's front porch as a baby. Instead of actually having a heart-to-heart with him before her death, his mother Pippa sets him a treasure hunt to unravel his past. Maybe she just thought he could do with getting some fresh air?

Adorable, but a little boring. If you like low stakes and very little plot, this was a fun meander. Wholesome, but I generally need more meat to sustain my interest.

Pickpick

This was a comforting, cosy read which was what I needed. Perhaps a little stronger in its first half than the second but gentle and heartwarming.

LoverOfLearning Sounds like a great cozy read! 1w

100% would have forgotten about posting this if @Liseworks hadn't reminded me 😂 As always, anyone can play along - items can be found on the front, back, or spine of the book. Unless a word is in quotation marks (in which case, you need that actual word), items can be a picture of the item or the word (i.e. stripes on the cover or the word stripes). You can use this board just this month, or keep going until you clear it. One book can clear ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) multiple squares.

Julies_Bookshelf_Adventures Yay! I‘ve been loving getting these bingos! 1w
Faranae Hopefully next month will be a better reading month. My rule at the moment is new reads can count for any bingo board already “unlocked“, but past reads don't count for newly unlocked boards (so books I read in January only go on the January board, but February gets to fill January and February). 1w
julieclair I have been playing all 12 boards at the same time. My goal is a 100% board blackout by the end of December! 1w

I'm going outside the box for one of my reading challenge prompts this year. I'm working through a book of logic puzzles. I'm still reading, but I'm also checking for comprehension. I couldn't bring myself to write in the book in case I pass it along when I'm done, so I'm using one of my MANY little notebooks to good use. Who's doing something similar?

Which tag is everyone using? 😁

InkedBookworm13 I have volume 1 of that book, and it's pretty fun. Good luck with your puzzles. 😀 1mo

AnneCecilie I bought the first volume in this series and couldn‘t get past the first puzzle. Am I supposed to look at them as a sudoko puzzle? 1mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @Librarybelle Thanks! Perhaps I'll join you on that hashtag. Now, if only I could get my butt in gear to actually review the few I've read.... 1mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @InkedBookworm13 I had every intention of picking up Volume 1, but it was out of stock at the local bookstores I was visiting, so I figured Volume 2 would be a fine place to start. Good luck with your puzzles, too! 1mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @mhillis It had been so far! A little break from just straight reading. 1mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @AnneCecilie In a way, yes. You'll need to use the descriptions and clues to determine which person had which object and where they had it. For the beginner puzzles, each 9 square box should have one checkmark indicating yes in each row & column. Some clues will eliminate a pairing, so you can use an X. Then, you use your deduction skills. I learned these as a kid, so I didn't need to look at the instructions, but they seem OK. 1mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @AnneCecilie If Ms X has the necklace, I'd ✅️ her box, then ❎️ out the other two suspects for the necklace. Other clues may eliminate an option, so you have to infer based on the other info provided. If you still have trouble, perhaps I can scan one of mine & email or arrange a Teams meeting to discuss it with you. The larger ones may prove more troublesome, but the beginner ones should be easier to catch into one you pick up how to do them. 1mo

Here is February's #ISpyBingo board!! A reminder that you can play these however you like, but I encourage covering multiple prompts with one book if you can!!

BarbaraBB Thanks! I have matches all my unread books to a 2025 prompt in Storygraph but don‘t have read all the books I could match to a January prompt! 1mo
Faranae Goodness, I've been forgetting to add books to my challenges, this and even *my own* haha. Grabbing the February board is a good reminder, thank you! 1mo

#OffMyShelf “hardback”

This book disappointed me. It‘s not quite memoir nor is it a proper history of jigsaw puzzles or of children‘s games. It‘s a hodgepodge and, IMO, it didn‘t always hang together. Some will find the hodgepodge charming, no doubt. Still, Drabble is a good writer, so it wasn‘t always a slog and I did learn the occasional fact, which hopefully I will remember. Like the Temple of Mithras in London.

CaramelLunacy What does it say about the Temple of Mithras? 2mo
Ruthiella @CaramelLunacy Not much. Just that it exists in London as part of the “jigsaw” composition of that venerable city. But I googled it and fell down an internet rabbit hole as a result. 2mo
wanderinglynn 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 another one off your shelf! 2mo

#WhereAreYouMonday

I‘m mainly in Long Bennington in Lincolnshire off the Great North Road where Margaret Drabble‘s maternal grandparents had a tea house and lodging during her childhood. This is a gentle, introspective memoir, focusing mainly on one favorite aunt, but also quite meandering.

LeahBergen Well, this sounds fascinating! 2mo
Ruthiella @LeahBergen It‘s a bit of a hodgepodge so far, but if you like Drabble as an author, I‘d recommend it. 2mo
readingjedi ...with jigsaws?!? I'm stacking! 🧩🧩🧩 2mo
Ruthiella @readingjedi Jigsaws do come up because they were a shared activity between Drabble and her aunt. But it‘s not the focus of the book, alas. I also love jigsaw puzzles 🧩! 2mo
