#readingoceania2024 #vanuatu I am getting a bit tired of the “my year in ….” (Name of South Pacific island) format but he keeps things light and moving and you do catch a bit of history and culture although much of what you catch is being a foreigner there. I learned a bit about cannibalism. I am slowly getting a glimpse of the differences between all the countries in Oceania. Just wish I could locate some better literature along the way
Another book I never would have read if it weren‘t for a Litsy challenge. In this book a hobbyist searches for the missing people in #Palau - the scene of some of the bloodiest battles of WWII. I found this short book to be very interesting. #ReadingOceania24
This was okay to listen to, but I felt myself being disinterested and zoning out during other parts. I think part of my issue was that it was dated- so much has happened since the Obama administration. #ReadingOceania2024
This is an interesting news piece about #Palau #readingOceania @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB

Another farmers‘ market morning means another friends of the library book sale! #BookHaul
The new book is POINT NEMO!
Great audiobook just a hair under 4.5 stars! Love RC Bray! This was a fun sci-fi story … from the ISS down to a secluded island on Earth. Alien mushrooms cure cancer then want to take over the world. Heart pounding! Edge of seat fun! Give it a listen!
Some of the fiercest battles in the Pacific in WWII were over #Palau. In the 1990s, a successful entrepreneur and scientist found his life‘s calling to find the planes that had been shot down over the island and bring closure to many families who still had MIAs. As with his bioengineering business, his mission succeeded and this is part his story as well as a son who never knew his father, a gunner on one of the downed planes. #readingOceania
This is the low end of the pick scale for me. I liked it better than his book about China, a place he actively seemed to hate. Headhunters is different than his usual travel books, however; here Troost is following Robert Louis Stevenson‘s trip through the South Seas while also dealing with his own alcoholism, so this book is less fun than some of his others.
