Pickpick

This is a very upsetting, and important book. I‘m not a vegetarian , but I do buy locally sourced meats at our open market. So I‘m trusting these animals are treated humanely by our local farmers. Still, I won‘t be eating any meat for awhile after this read & will rethink my position...as soon as I write my thoughts in the journal I‘ll be sending on this book to Perth, Scotland. #nonfictiontravellingbook @Teakillamockingbird

TrishB It‘s a hard read 😢 I had to skip quite a few descriptions. 7y
Cathythoughts @TrishB it really is a hard read 😢 7y

#nonfictiontravellingbook @dariazeoli Thankyou for this book. I‘m just starting this one ..... and I love this quote from Gandhi :
“ The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way it‘s animals are treated “
Very wise thought & I think true.
.... better get reading.

TrishB A tough read 😔 7y
dariazeoli Yes, that quote is definitely thought-provoking! 7y

😢 This is such an important read. We are never neutral in our decisions. We all choose a side when it comes to this issue. Everything we do in life is an ideology, some just followed by a larger group of people. If you want to know where your food comes from and why you feel certain ways towards certain animals, read this. #nonfictiontravellingbook

dariazeoli Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I so agree! I just sent you an email with @Cathythoughts address and CC‘d her. Sorry for not doing that sooner! 7y
TrishB Great review 👍🏻 A hard read. 7y
Cathythoughts Wonderful review... I‘m looking forward to reading this. I think it will be an important book for me at this time .... 7y

laurieluna @Cathythoughts writing up my thoughts this weekend and sending it your way with a couple of other things! It will be extremely early, apologies. Hopw you had a good birthday! X 7y
laurieluna @TrishB definitely. But some very important points, especially in the later chapters on the psychology of it all. 7y
TrishB Yes, definitely new things to think about. 7y
Cathythoughts Thankyou @miralunasbooknook 🙏🏻. I‘ll be on the lookout 👍🏻❤️ 7y
laurieluna I worried I wouldn't have enough to say in the notebook....4 pages later...🙈 7y

A couple of chapters in to the #nonfictiontravellingbook and I'm already making notes for the big book. Even read some bits out to my partner and he made a very good point! Going to keep reading and see if it holds true for the rest of the book... 🙏
Popped up on my google home page! https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2018/apr/01/vegans-are-coming-millennia...

@dariazeoli @TrishB #nonfictiontravellingbook has arrived safely! Thanks. Anxious about this read, but glad to take part. I haven't eaten meat (read chicken, pigs, cows) for 6/7 years now, but have jumped between veggie, vegan and pescatarian during that time. Wondering where this book will take me on my journey.

TrishB It is a difficult read but thought provoking. Glad it arrived safely! The bookmark is for you 😁 7y
laurieluna @TrishB aww thanks 😄 I read the foreword and my eyes were filling up. Think it's going to have to be read when the little ones are asleep. Shall read everyone elses thoughts once I've read it. 7y

Reading as part of #nonfictiontravellingbook
Not sure I can finish, stomach churning and have already cried once in first 50 pages. I haven‘t eaten meat for 33 years! And very sporadically from age 9 -18

laurieluna Sporadic for me too, no meat for 6 years now though, and was Vegan for a year. Still eat fish now occasionally, but thinking of stopping that again too. Looking forward to reading this. 7y
Cinfhen Oh wow....that‘s a long time...33 years!!!! 7y
TrishB @miralunasbooknook I don‘t know if looking forward is the right phrase! But it‘s very interesting. I will need a book that has no animals in it next!! 7y

laurieluna @TrishB yeah, probably not 🙈 it will certainly be an eye opening read! X 7y
TrishB @Cinfhen 18 when I gave it up completely! The 80s were not easy times for vege‘s 😁😁 7y
Cinfhen So true...you‘re always an original 😘😘😘 7y
rockpools @TrishB 80s veggi-ness 😝I lived on cheese puffs & chips through school. With the occasional baked bean to make sure I had the full range of nutrition. Not sure I could read this though. 7y
TrishB @RachelO space raiders and Bounty‘s for me! With Iceland pizzas and of course beans - on toast or jacket potatoes!! It‘s a difficult read. 7y
Lindy Hugs from another vegetarian. I haven‘t eaten meat since I left home and my family‘s farm when I was 17. 7y
dariazeoli Sorry - I know it‘s a rough read! I‘m so curious to read the traveling notebook when it returns to me this fall. I hope it gave everyone some food for thought 7y
TrishB @Lindy @dariazeoli nothing is particularly new to me, just 💔 7y
Blaire Those books are tough to read. As a 20 year vegetarian I‘ve tried to get my meat eating husband to read eating animals. Heart-breaking. 7y
laurieluna About 50 pages in and struggling. The quotes from slaughterhouse workers are terrifying. 😢 7y
TrishB @miralunasbooknook it‘s very tough. I must admit I skim read a lot of those passages. After reading one - you get the gist. 💔😢 7y

As some of you know, I‘m hosting a #nonfictiontravellingbook on the topic of carnism. I‘m currently reading the author‘s latest book about relationships between vegans and non-vegans. I‘ve used The Matrix metaphor myself when describing what it‘s like to go vegan.

Cathythoughts I‘m looking forward to reading your book ! It comes my way in May 🙏🏻 7y
TrishB Book just arrived with me today. Out of 5 regulars in our house we have 3 vege‘s and 1 vegan! 7y
DivineDiana This looks interesting. It is a struggle to socialize in a world (and a household) where you feel alone and feared. I just realized that this must be how immigrants feel. 7y
