CindyMyLifeIsLit Is this Phoenix? We‘re at 80 at 11 pm, so you have us beat! Our temperature is weirdly low right now—only 92, 93 instead of 98-100. Maybe it‘s a result of the hurricane! 🤷‍♀️ 4mo

Texreader That‘s brutal! I‘ve definitely experienced those baking nights here in south Texas but it‘s downright cool at 80 here, probably because of the after effects of the hurricane. 4mo

Amiable My friend who lives in Phoenix is always defensive when I ask why she lives in the desert—she says it‘s not so bad because it‘s a “dry heat.” I say so is the heat that comes out of my oven but I‘m not sticking my body in there! 😖 Although she does have a point —humidity plays a large role in the “misery” index when the temperatures rise. It‘s been in the high 80s/low 90s here in CT, but with humidity levels over 70%. It‘s difficult to breathe. 😫 (edited) 4mo

AmyG I am off to Las Vegas. It‘s 116 today. @Amiable I agree….humidity makes life so much worse. 4mo

Leftcoastzen @Amiable well , that‘s gone too . When I was a kid humidity would be 12% or less . When I posted last night 29% humidity. Used to be our monsoons would come & go fast , along with humidity, no more. 4mo

√“At Sky Harbor Airport, NASA found the pavement to be around 140 degrees.“
√“This year, we‘ve already had 23 days of excessive heat, meaning we will outpace previous records.“
Plus, humidity AND high dew points but ZERO rain, unlike our monsoons of old, which would bring some respite. It's frickin' hell here. 🔥

Cleveland Noir | Michael Ruhlman, Miesha Wilson Headen

This is nearly impossible for me to rate. Most of these are perfect examples of noir. They are gritty, dark, and hopeless. I can‘t fault the writing in 75% of the stories. But, and this is big, I‘ve never read a collection that left me feeling as despondent as this one. I wish I could bleach my brain and remove all remnants of these stories. I can‘t fault them but I wish I‘d never had to experience them.

swishandflick My one and only time in Phoenix was for a marching band competition (I was a total band geek back in the day) and they had us outside practicing ALL DAY. I got light headed and legit passed out, promptly getting lectured on not drinking enough water (even though they were the ones who had control over how often we'd get to break for water). Hopefully one day I have a chance to return and replace that with a better memory. Not like I'm bitter 🤣 (edited) 1y

I had no ideas at 5 PM. Three hours later, I had four pairings and could not decide between them. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I started with the songs and backed into books. Hotel California beat out Led Zeppelin‘s Immigrant Song, Creedence Clearwater Revival‘s I Put a Spell on You, and Concrete Blonde‘s Bloodletting simply because I think Los Angeles Noir is my best book fit, but I‘m still waffling. #titlesandtunes #sexdrugsandrocknroll #sexdrugsandrockandroll

This was a pretty good collection of stories set in Baltimore. I especially liked the ones that take place in areas I‘m familiar with. Very detailed and well written.
