Remembering Santa Fe | Willard F Clark

I keep forgetting to share my November reading wrap up! I haven‘t read 4 books in one month in awhile so yay! But I hope I can top that this month.

#bookly #booklyapp

DogMomIrene Cool graphic! And you read 30 out of 30 days, which is impressive to me. I can get super moody around reading, so I skip days when what I should do is try a different book. 2w
PaperbackPirate Thank you @DogMomIrene ! This year I started eating lunch alone to avoid a toxic coworker so I usually get at least a few pages in during my break. 😅 I hope your new strategy helps. 1w

Part art book/part memoir, this beautiful little book shows us Santa Fe as it was 100 years ago, and laments how it‘s changed in the following 60 years. A lovely little time machine.

Assumption: A Novel | Percival Everett

The title of this book couldn‘t have been better. This is one of Percival Everett‘s earlier novels and it reads like a literary thriller. Protagonist Ogden Walker is deputy sheriff in a small town, solving crimes and driving around. I knew there had to be more to it - this is Everett after all. So I started making assumptions.
What a clever book. Read it!

Bookpearl He‘s been on my radar! I think I may grab a copy and read this week. 3mo

New Mexico, 1930s. Georgia O‘Keefe, staying in an adobe dwelling at Ghost Ranch,is thoroughly engrossed in the interplay between light & shadows as she paints in the predawn, captivating landscape. In the distance she observes a curious shape & upon investigating, discovers a slain monk in a car. This sets the stage for her involvement in a murder inquiry.Ultimately a German espionage plot is uncovered. The authors descriptions of Georgia‘s desert🔽

kspenmoll 🔼 inspired painting process, her inner life & the emotional upheaval she is dealing with, at her husband‘s,photographer Alfred Stieglitz, affair, is nothing but masterful. Her time alone painting in New Mexico gave her the solace she needed to heal. I feel as if I cannot do justice to this book‘s review-it captivated me on so many levels that I cannot express. Still needing a book set in #NewMexico for this year, I jumped into this supernatural thriller. Forensics photographer Rita Todacheene shares a talent for photography with both her grandmother and mother. But Rita‘s eyes capture more than film can… she sees ghosts. While some are benign, the book‘s opening and brutal crime scene comes with a ghost desperate for justice. With cinematic flair, this makes for an exciting debut to a new series!
