Gotta love it when your library is on top of #diversebooks and #muslimshelfspace and you don't even need to request your TBR list! 😍

Just finished this book in 2 days..would recommend as a solid, clean upper elementary school read. A great multicultural piece and authentic Muslim-American narrative that normalizes #ourvoices in mainstream lit. It fulfills 2 things we need in today's sad world: 1) for readers to see themselves in lit; and 2) for readers to see "others" thru their own words in lit. This in itself makes it a worthwhile read, especially for youth and educators.

This novel is by a Saudi writer, and you may know I'm from Saudi Arabia, so it makes me so happy to finally have a book from the country where I live ❤️ The writing is so beautiful, bold and exquisite. Raja Alem unveils the Saudi society in this brilliant murder mystery. Although I'm only about 50 pages in I'm really loving it — This is a MUST READ if you like reading books.

readulteress I have a newfound love for non-white authors and this is definitely going on my tbr 😍 7y
Wbabdullah Thank you so much for sharing! It'd be great to get an inside view of "the kingdom" without a book that romanticizes veils and hijab, and/or bashes Islam! Can't wait to read InshaAllah!! #diversebooks #ownvoices #muslimshelfspace 7y

I started this last night. It's such a beautiful book so far and an excellent look at Islam and how to build faith as a Muslim.

Mehso-so

Although I didn't personally enjoy this book much (I think plot/character/writing need major work) I acknowledge this def has teen appeal as a Muslim girl version of the fluffy straight girl stuff that abounds in #YA. It's quite pedantic, a bit after-school special, with plenty of educational moments which might be useful for some readers but for me fell flat and took away from the characters feeling like real people. #MuslimShelfSpace

Kamala's a great superhero, but I think I'm realizing that I just am not super interested in superheroes doing superheroing? I honestly like the scenes with her family and friends better. Also, this villain isn't that compelling. I didn't like the illustrations for the first two issues although the later issues (illustrated by Alphona) were great with expressive detail. And yay for brown Muslim superheroes. #MuslimShelfSpace

Gezemice I had the exact same reaction! Loved the first one, second is disappointing. 7y

Two #YA books I got out from my library today by and about Muslims. They're for a school project on Muslim YA books. Anyone read either of these? #MuslimShelfSpace

DoubleBananas Haven't read them, but I have a copy of Does My Head Look Big in This? In my office and my kiddos really seem to enjoy it. 8y
brownekr I've read and liked both! That's probably my least favourite volume of the Kamala Khan Ms Marvel, though--the rest are even better. 8y
CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian @brownekr Okay, that's good to know. 8y
