Pickpick

I normally don't read horror, but I do like dystopian fiction, so this was a cross-over I could roll with. Dont want to give much away, but it was reminiscent of Never Let Me Go with more gore plus Station Eleven with less theatre. Loved how the relationships between the characters evolved and how Melanie comes to terms with who she is and why she has been treated the way she has. Terrifying and resonant. #lrcbingo #freezerworthyhorror

A pick for what it is - a fun novel of a family on a road trip to get to California for the end days, which according to their church is approaching I'm a few days. The beautiful older sister is a nonbeliever who rebels in various ways. The younger sister wants to believe but is becoming skeptical. A fun, quick road trip book about religion, family dynamics, and being a teenager - this was a good beach read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ #lrcbingo #bythecover #mmd

Oranges, gin, a gun - themes and objects recur throughout the story of the Cousins and Keatings. Patchett deftly switches perspectives and time periods between chapters in a way that works well in this novel that explores the intertwining of families and the small choices that change their paths in large ways. A story of childhood, choices, family, and place - the characters will stay with me. #lrcbingo #multipleperspectives

Mehso-so

This genre of non-fiction was a stretch for me, which made it a #slowread. The story of Elizabeth who set up an intricate spy ring to get secrets to the union, and also by Emma who fought for the union disguised as a man and then fought for her pension after the war drew me in the most. I knew nothing about any of these women and glad I read it, though chunks were a slog for me. #litsyatoz #letterA #lrcbingo #historicalevent #bookriot #war
