My library‘s book club pick for August—I‘ll lead the meeting tomorrow. This is a heavy-handed novel to create empathy in readers (southerners in particular) who may be against gay marriage. The story is fine, and the characters were nicely written but most of them were a mouthpiece for the agenda. Of course I 100% support gay marriage and I love that this book exists but I don‘t enjoy being preached to while reading, even if I love the message.

Reggie There‘s this horror movie called Black Christmas. There‘s 3 versions, the 70s one, the early 00s one, and the one that just came out a few years ago. The last one is the worst one. I consider myself to be liberal and left leaning but if there ever was a movie I would call woke in a bad way, it‘s that one. Sometimes I just want to be shown and not preached to. All this to say, I understand. lol 3mo
NatalieR I understand too. I have lost interest in Silas House because he has become extremely forceful in expecting others to think like he does. I agree with his beliefs, I just don‘t like it when he or anyone else to forces their beliefs onto others. I was a fan of Silas‘ before he was well known. He‘s changed a lot. His first 3 books are his best. 3mo

This was an adequate collection of photos comparing what Key West looked like in the past to modern times. This is the fourth book I‘ve read in the Images of America series and the reality has typically failed to live up to my excitement going into the book.

This book was good, you could tell it was published in 1995. I hate that i cant fully update it on goodreads.

This is the first book I have ever DNF‘d. I understand it was written in a very different time but at page 142/262, I decided I just really don‘t like it. The language is stronger than I anticipated, again understanding this was written in the 30‘s, but almost every other sentence includes some sort of derogatory reference to a person of another race.

I much prefer Hemingway for his love of polydactyl cats. Picture of Hemingway cat included.

I liked the uncertainty the writer gave the reader until the end. I chose this book as I visited Key West, where it is set. The terms of endearment were creepy, but that was not the author's doing but rather a true account within this story.
