Japanese internment camps were miserable-no running water, no electricity, and very cramped conditions. These people were American citizens who worked hard and had families; they gave up so much 😔 But according to the authors of this graphic novel, baseball brought them together and helped maintain their hope and lift their spirits.

TheSpineView Great job! 2y
tonymp Do you think the book privileges sports activities? What about the people that didn't like baseball? 2y

tonymp @Eggs What I meant to ask was if you thought the graphic novel assumes everyone at the internment camps loved baseball. Perhaps I misunderstood your summary, which could be about specific individuals or everyone at the camps. Anyway, it isn't important. 2y

This is a heartbreaking and powerful book about the Japanese internment in Canada during World War II. I had no idea about a lot of this history being American.

I really didn‘t like the book from basically the start. It was one of those books that I thought I would like more as I went along, but I just couldn‘t find myself liking it. While the Canadian-Japanese internment during WWII is an important subject to broach by Canadian authors, this wasn‘t a great execution of the topic. I know that some would disagree but with having a male character as the protagonist and it not depicted on the cover is ⬇️

melissajayne one problem. Another issue I had was that the book was written fairly simplistically. Now if I were 11 or 12 years old, I probably would have enjoyed it more. But I‘m almost 41 years old and I‘ve read much better stuff than this; I suppose a revisit to Snow Falling on Cedars is needed.⬇️ (edited) 4y
