Bailedbailed

The writing seems juvenile-maybe it‘s YA?-and the characters unrealistic. The subject is interesting and not something I‘ve read in WWII fiction but I‘m annoyed with it and life is too short to read a book I‘m not into. I‘ll move on to something better.

MsMelissa I liked this one, but I‘m totally onboard with bailing if you don‘t like a book. I do it all the time. 3y

Bailedbailed

I really didn‘t like the book from basically the start. It was one of those books that I thought I would like more as I went along, but I just couldn‘t find myself liking it. While the Canadian-Japanese internment during WWII is an important subject to broach by Canadian authors, this wasn‘t a great execution of the topic. I know that some would disagree but with having a male character as the protagonist and it not depicted on the cover is ⬇️

melissajayne one problem. Another issue I had was that the book was written fairly simplistically. Now if I were 11 or 12 years old, I probably would have enjoyed it more. But I‘m almost 41 years old and I‘ve read much better stuff than this; I suppose a revisit to Snow Falling on Cedars is needed.⬇️ (edited) 4y

Pickpick

All We Could Not Leave Behind takes place during WWII. Even though this book is based mostly about the friendship and love of two characters Hayden and Chidori you see the struggles and what it really means to never give up hope. When Chidori family is kick out of there home for being Japanese Candian during the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Chidori and her family is sent to an internment camp.

BookNightOwl Hayden decides to enlist and everyday he thinks about how Chidori and him will be together again.I loved the point of view of the main character being from the male. I loved how you had snippets of Chidori's journal entries. I love to read historic fiction even though this was more about their love then the war. It was a fantastic read. 5y
