Kindred In Death | J. D. Robb

Captain MacMasters & his wife return from their vacation & find the body of their 16-year-old daughter. Brutally assaulted & murdered, Deena went through hell before she died, & her parents want Lieutenant Eve Dallas as lead. As the team start to look for the perp, he seems to be one step ahead: fake ID, avoiding CCTV, uploading a virus into the victim's security system, & it looks as if Deena may not have been the only victim he has lined up.

OutsmartYourShelf Another one in this series that I have supposedly already read but don't remember a thing about it. I'm beginning to think someone used that flashy thing from 'Men in Black' on me. It's a good book in the series but if this was a TV show I would say this is more a filler episode than one that significantly moves the narrative on. There's a little lighter fare with the wedding of Eve's friends, Charles & Louise, & she juggles the case with her 3w
OutsmartYourShelf duties as Louise's Matron of Honor. Finally, I know she is not the main character, but sometimes I'd like Peabody to have the chance to shine a bit more. 4🌟

TW: if sexual assault is a trigger for you, then please note that the details on this & the injuries left are rather graphic so please be aware of that.

Another great entry in the series! Eve really battled her emotions in this one, and the whole plot line was very dark and very sinister. On to the next! #InDeathLongReadalong

#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR Sorry, I was listening to this on audiobook and I didn‘t realize there were more than 20 chapters - this is the longest in death book so far, probably because of the importance of Eve losing and regaining her badge. I enjoyed the finale of this one, it was - as usual - intense. I hope we see more of Louise in later books (I think we do but can‘t quite recall) - she‘s a good match for Eve. ⬇️

StayCurious I loved seeing the loyalty of Eve‘s group of friends in this book. They really stood by her. She can‘t deny their bond now. If I was Eve I would probably still be hurt/pissed at the NYPSD but hopefully she‘ll get past it. (edited) 2mo
TheAromaofBooks I only have the two chapters left, but I have really been enjoying this one! It's quite the emotional ride, and seeing how loyal everyone is to Eve has been great. 2mo
ShananigansReads I thought this book was longer than usual but I can‘t depend on my memory. I love the family/support system Eve has built for herself. 2mo

#IDLR #InDeathLongReadalong Ch.11-15: Boy, what a tough few chapters for Eve. Bowers puts up more complaints and goes to the media with wild accusations. Then she is killed and Eve is suspect # 1! Before she can get over that shock, her badge and gun are taken and she‘s suspended. This is devastating for Eve who feels like her identity is taken from her. Roarke will need to be there to help her through it even if he has to give her tough love.⬇️

StayCurious Eve has certainly pissed people off in her other cases but this killer goes for what matters to her the most. She‘s in for the fight of her life if she wants her career to survive. 2mo
LiseWorks I really loved the snow scene with Eve enjoying the snow. It was great. 2mo

ShananigansReads I don‘t condone murder but I was glad to see Bowers go. I love the support system that Eve has. 2mo
StayCurious @ShananigansReads yeah Bowers was off her rocker 2mo
Librarybelle This was a hard section to read. Thank goodness Eve has friends and family who can support her during this time. 2mo
TheAromaofBooks I get that being a cop is a huge part of Eve's identity, but it also feels like she has been a cop for long enough to understand that protocol has to be followed, regardless of personal feelings or opinions. It just seems like she would have a little more faith in the system and its ability to clear her. 2mo
StayCurious @TheAromaofBooks yeah you would think. That‘s a really good point. 2mo
LitStephanie That meme. 😆 2mo

#IDLR #InDeathLongReadalong Ch.6-10: we meet Louise Dimatto, an overworked doctor who works at the clinic that saw two of Eve‘s victims. Eve wants her to be a consultant on the case. She also happens to be a top surgeon‘s niece which could be suspicious. Eve interrogates different doctors at a fancy party and pisses someone off enough that they send a droid to warn her off the case.⬇️

StayCurious Looks like Eve is getting under the surgeons‘ skins…she‘s good at hitting the right nerve. There are a lot of suspects this time, and they‘re all in their own little club. It‘s hard to break in. And Eve is still dealing with trouble from Bowers and with her own memories. 2mo
Librarybelle That last scene…wow! Eve is definitely making someone nervous! 2mo
LitStephanie I kind of like that Eve is so rude and ruthless. She would be an unrealistic character if she was full of only shining, admirable qualities. 2mo
LiseWorks Eve seems to have no patience in this one. I like how she is vulnerable and she fights for the little guy 2mo
