Bricking It | Nick Spalding
post image
Panpan

This is my “argh it‘s 90 degrees but I don‘t want to turn on the AC, so I‘m going to grill dinner so I don‘t have to use the oven” face.

While I grilled, I finished this one. It had some parts that made me chuckle... but overall it veered too far into farcical territory. I almost bailed around the 70% mark, but just sped up the playback through the end. #audiobook #audiocooking #howjessicareadsin2020

Clap When You Land | Elizabeth Acevedo
post image
Pickpick

CLAP WHEN YOU LAND is the 2nd Acevedo book I‘ve listened to, and I loved it just as much as I loved THE POET X. It‘s the story of two sisters — Camino & Yahaira — who do not know that they are half-sisters until their father dies in a plane clash.

I can‘t recommend the audio version enough. Because CLAP WHEN YOU LAND is a novel in verse, the audio version really brings out the poetry of Camino & Yahaira‘s stories.

Mrs. Pollifax Unveiled | Dorothy Gilman
post image
Pickpick

If you‘ve never read this series, they feature Mrs. Pollifax, an elderly widow, who gets tired of her Garden Club routine and walks into the CIA to volunteer as a courier.
Over the last 2 1/2 months I‘ve loved journeying all over the world from Mexico to Bulgaria to Burma to Syria w/ Mrs. Pollifax! I listened to most of them on audio, bc Barbara Rosenblat‘s narration is phenomenal.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for this one! #howjessicareadsin2020 #pollifaxathon

Here‘s my March in review! Loved the top five, liked things less toward the bottom. Actively disliked the two at bottom right. My #pollifaxathon is going to continue in April! 🙂 #howjessicareadsin2020

My 24 February reads!

Highlights:
📚Because Internet — a fascinating linguistic take on the internet and how it‘s changing the way we speak.
📚 Well Met — a sweet romance with a super fun Renaissance fair setting.
📚 The Poet X — I adored this YA novel-in-verse on audio.
📚 The Path Between Us - a great Enneageam refresher.
📚 The Collapsing Empire/The Consuming Fire - Am now dying for book 3 to come out!

RamsFan1963 Scalzi is one of my favorite authors. Hopefully book 3 will be here soon!! 5y

What If It's Us | Becky Albertalli, Adam Silvera

Pickpick

I read this cute little YA romance a couple weeks ago, and it made me smile — even if Arthur and Ben were both occasionally annoying. (Teenage boys, amiright?) But the way the authors address whether or not Ben and Arthur were meant to be was sweet, and I absolutely loved that they gave it another chance even when their first date was suuuper awkward. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #howjessicareadsin2020

Megabooks Lol! Awkward first dates! 5y

I read 26 books in January! Which sounds like a lot, but, as you can see, a whole bunch of them are pretty brainless fiction.
📚 Nemesis was the shortest book at 224 pages.
📚 El Norte was the longest at 576 pages.
📚 3 were nonfiction.
📚 9 were rereads. (The election cycle is stressing me out... I‘m escaping into low-stakes fiction worlds!)
📚The top row are my favorites. The bottom row are my least favorites.

BethM I adored Geekerella! Brainless is fine- reading doesn‘t have to be deep all the time :) 5y
howjessicareads @4thhouseontheleft - they were all rereads for me! RW&RB is by far my fave, but I like them all! 5y

alisiakae RW&RB is actually what helped me come up with this week‘s #friyayintro questions. 😄 And if you‘re ever ready to end your hiatus with that and want to go back to writing them, just let me know! 5y
