I read The One-in-a-Million Boy, a beautifully written novel, for my book club and have SO many quotations marked! House Arrest, a YA/middle-grade novel in verse, is the journal of a boy that details the year after he steals a wallet. (I stayed up waaayy too late finishing this one!)
