Was fortunate to attend the Chicago Public Library Foundation Awards dinner tonight. Honorees included Christina Henríquez, Chance the Rapper and Ann Patchett. Came home with a stack of books to read included a new annotated edition of the tagged book which goes on sale next week. Such a fun evening celebrating libraries, books, authors, and creating.

Pickpick

Well, I‘ve finally read Ann Patchett‘s possibly best known/regarded book. I enjoyed it. I liked the use of music, language, and communication within the book as the characters find themselves in an unexpected situation. I still have a couple more of her backlist to read, but to me this isn‘t her best. I liked Tom Lake and State of Wonder more.

LeeRHarry I DNFed this one, State of Wonder is definitely my favourite so far. I have Tom Lake on my TBR. 😊 2mo
AmyG Agree. Not my favorite either. I am excited as I still have to read State of Wonder. 2mo

Ann Patchett announced that she is releasing an annotated version of Bel Canto on November 5.

It will look similar to the original 2001 edition and includes her handwritten annotations about what she liked and didn‘t like.

There will also be a special slip case edition that you can only order through Parnassus.

I‘ve only read 6, although I‘ve got 4 or 5 on my TBR. I‘m not that bothered about it though…is that a bad thing? Meh.

3.5/4⭐️

Beautiful writing. Heartbreaking ending. Unnecessary epilogue.

Amor4Libros I‘ve always been curious about this one! Glad to see your review. 4mo
Sace @Amor4Libros I would recommend it. It‘s slow but in a good, reflective way. Very much a character driven book. 4mo
Amor4Libros @Sace Adding it to TBR 🤗 4mo
Ruthiella So many readers dislike the epilogue! 😅 4mo
Sace @Ruthiella it was so unnecessary and didn‘t seem to fit with the rest of the book. 4mo

I am enjoying the tagged book but I have been distracted lately 😂. I think I will have to read this one again when it doesn‘t feel like required reading. #catsoflitsy

BkClubCare I want to reread this someday - it‘s been a decade (or two?!) since I read it. 5mo
Sace @BkClubCare I feel bad for not giving it the attention it deserves because it‘s really lovely. Or as lovely as a book can be about hostages. (edited) 5mo

Sace @TheLudicReader I am enjoying it yet at the same time I don‘t think I‘m giving it the attention it requires/deserves. 5mo
