In the early 1900‘s, an Indian youth, Krishnamurti, was chosen to be the Spiritual Leader of the Theosophical Society. He was educated, groomed and provided with travel, castles, land and servants. In 1929, he denounced the Society, and spoke against their beliefs. #heretic #nofemmeber

Billypar What an interesting life- I'm sure that the reversal of his convictions must be a central part of his story. Sounds pretty compelling! 6y
Cinfhen Never heard of him before, fascinating 6y
DivineDiana @Billypar A most interesting life! This book is written by the daughter of his best friend. He is considered one of the greatest thinkers and religious teachers of all times. He spoke before the United Nations who presented him with a Medal of Peace. 6y
DivineDiana @Cinfhen His story is incredible! And there are Philadelphia connections! One of his ardent followers was Robert Logan, a prominent member of Philadelphia society, who owned a 200 acre estate in Bucks County, called Sarobia. It was a gift from his wife, Sarah Wetherhill, a Philadelphia debutante. They both were a part of his inner circle. 6y
Cinfhen I love that philly connection!! 6y

Finished part one today, and I‘m not sure how I feel about it yet. Hopefully part two will end up making it more clear for me 🤞 although, it has become clear that Charles Ryder is a little bit of a #Heretic in the eyes Sebastian‘s Catholic family.

Also, it was a two cakes kind of day today, and it was delicious 👌

#CurrentlyReading #BridesheadNostalgia #NoFemmeber

Cinfhen Everyday is a two cake type of day for me 😉🤪 6y
TrishB I really wasn‘t liking it at the end of part one....but...I carried on! 6y
Kalalalatja @Cinfhen true that! 🙌 @TrishB I‘ll keep hoping for it to turn around then 🤞 6y

Owlizabeth I listened to this narrated by Jeremy Irons and really enjoyed it. I‘m sure it‘s a much different experience reading. 6y
BarbaraBB I hope it will get better for you. I ended up not liking this book very much but I know I was a minority :) 6y
JoRead Have you seen the movie? Emma Thompson stars and it was a semi-good adaptation. 6y
Billypar 'A two cakes day' 😂😂 I'm looking forward to hearing the consensus from the group on this one! 6y
batsy @BarbaraBB Oh, me too! I thought I was the only one 😂 6y
Kalalalatja @Owlizabeth oooh, I bet he is a great narrator! @BarbaraBB @batsy at least I‘ll be in good company if I don‘t end up liking it 😄😄 @JoRead I haven‘t, but I love Emma Thompson so I‘ll have to give it a try! @Billypar I love those kind of days 😂😂 6y

DAY 14: Nefertari (Nefertiti‘s forgotten niece) is cast aside after her family is killed by a palace fire and posthumously labeled as heretics. She must overcome her family‘s past. This work of historical fiction is part of Moran‘s Egyptian Royals Collection. I loved all three books!

#heretic #nofemmeber

Birdsong28 I know it's not Egyptian but have you read the tagged book it's really good 6y
britt_brooke @Birdsong28 Yes!! It‘s my favorite of hers. 💚 6y
Billypar Nice selections ☺️ Not sure that I've ever read a book set in Ancient Egypt, but that is quite a setting! 6y

Cinfhen I‘m not getting my tags for some reason....but these all look good!! 6y
Cinfhen I see why....you put a comma 😜😂😂 6y
britt_brooke @Cinfhen I have no idea why I did that! 😆😬 6y

The sweetest heresy received
That men and women know—
Each other‘s convert—
Though the faith accommodate but two—

The churches are so frequent—
The ritual—so small
The grace so unavoidable—
To fail—is infidel—

#heretic #nofemmeber

Centique 🙌 6y
Billypar I love it- we must love and cherish our fellow congregant or risk excommunication 😄 6y

I loved this book. Need to read the second one she has #heretic and the third Nomad. I must be a heretic myself because one of my favorite songs is Dear God by XTC http://www.metrolyrics.com/dear-god-lyrics-xtc.html #nofemmeber

Cinfhen This author has been on my radar forever!!! 6y
Chrissyreadit @Cinfhen infidel was amazing but I read it when it first came out so I‘m sure I need to reread before I read the others. 6y
Billypar Great choice! I'd love to try this author- I heard so much good stuff about Infidel. And the XTC song is really good as well 🙌 6y

Kathleen Kent is descended from Martha Carrier, one of the women accused of witchcraft during the Salem Witch Trials. Kent writes a fictional tale about her ancestor, told from the perspective of one of Martha‘s daughters, that is harrowing and haunting. I loved this book - a little different narration wise, but it leaves such an impact. #heretic #NoFemmeber

Cinfhen I have a feeling I‘ll be stacking books all day #stacked 6y
Cathythoughts @Cinfhen yes! Me too ! Stacking ... 👍🏻❤️ 6y
Librarybelle Haha, @Cinfhen and @Cathythoughts ...the dangers of Litsy! 6y
Billypar What a thing to find in your family tree! Really cool how she was able to translate that story into historical fiction. 6y

To be Dalit and to question the caste system inherent in Hinduism is to be a #heretic. This is an incredibly personal account of the costs of going against the social order in Indian society. Highly recommended.

#NoFemmeber @Billypar @Cinfhen

Cinfhen I thought I had previously stacked this one 🙄#stacked 6y
Velvetfur Wow, this sounds powerful, I'll research it x 6y
erzascarletbookgasm Sounds like an important read. ❗️ 6y

batsy @Velvetfur @erzascarletbookgasm An important read, presented in a very accessible manner 👍🏽 6y
RohitSawant Couldn't have stacked this any faster. I remember the papers carrying a story about P. V. Sindhu's caste being the most Googled query in India after her Olympic victory. 🤦🏻‍♂️ It's sad and enraging that it's something people still obsess over & can only hope it'll change with the coming generation. 6y
batsy @rohit-sawant Ugh, that's awful. You're right, so sad and enraging at the same time. 6y
AppuNthebooks This one‘s a keeper. If nothing at least as a reminder that caste is alive and kicking no matter how much the urban elite would like to deny it. 6y
Billypar Agreed with the previous comments- an important book because most of us who live outside of India have little idea what kinds of things have changed in the culture and how much has remained resistant to change and why. 6y
Centique This sounds incredible. I would stack it but somehow I already have. Maybe it was after I read The God of Small Things which opened my eyes (a little) about caste. Keen to learn more 💕 6y
batsy @AppuNthebooks So true! In my experience there are swathes of the "liberal" urban elite who are only too happy to pretend that what implicates them doesn't exist. 6y
batsy @Billypar @Centique Yes, there is so much to learn. The way caste works in the South Asian diaspora is different from India; both have devastating implications and I'm always learning about how there are no limits to its awfulness 😞 6y

Dido‘s Mum, Edie, doesn‘t do normal and leads a bit of a #heretic lifestyle. And all Dido wants is normal, just plain old boring normal.

After a few heavy reads of late, this is a good palate cleanser so far, and an interesting look into Mum-daughter relationships. And I think this was one I stacked from you @Cinfhen

KarenUK I love this title! Just ordered it from book depository 😊👍 6y
Cinfhen Nope, not me but it sounds great 😜 6y
JennyM @Cinfhen hum sorry, Cindy. It all gets a little murky when you stark stacking everything you see 😊 6y
JennyM @KarenUK me too! It‘s enjoyable so far. 6y
Billypar Sounds like a fun one! Stacking everything you see is definitely a favorite Litsy pasttime- anything else would be heresy 😋 6y
