We Sold Our Souls | Grady Hendrix
Pickpick

This marks, the fourth Grady Hendrix book that I have read in the past year. I am a fan of horror, movies and heavy-metal so this story was right up my alley. Kris was an amazing protagonist. As the saying goes he‘ll have no fury like a woman scorned. This story did not end the way I thought it would. Yet, the ending was satisfying . Be careful what you wish for because you just might get it. #gradyhendrix #wesoldoursouls

For years, Dr. Murchison had taught her to breathe in the flower, and blow out the candle. Now she breathed in Slayer and blew out Black Sabbath.

@inkedbookworm13 I follow him on Instagram, but didn't realize he released songs on Spotify, so I've mostly just heard clips. I'll have to take a look!

3.5 Stars • We Sold Our Souls is a satirical novel that explores the dark underbelly of the music industry, where a washed-up heavy metal band discovers that their souls were actually sold to a demonic entity by their manipulative manager. Following the band's journey to reclaim their souls and expose the truth, they face off against the forces of evil. It's a wild ride filled with dark humor, social commentary, and plenty of head-banging moments.

That was, indeed, METAL. As much a love letter to a music genre; and a statement on making art, finding purpose, and the dangers of compromise for fame and profit, of seeking comfort over personal fulfillment; as it was a gory, creepy, violent road trip leading to one hell of a final performance.
A good sprinkling of female rage in there, too, as a treat. 😉 1/?

Robotswithpersonality This is, first and foremost, Kris's journey, horror elements are secondary but no less vivid, in that uncanny way Hendrix has for grossing me out while simultaneously toying with my emotions and stress level. 🫣 2/? 1y
Robotswithpersonality Did not expect conspiracy theories or UPS to feature so heavily. ?
Love the Hendrix trademark inclusion of mixed media, this time radio show excerpts: news and music reviews.
Holy Shit, do I wish the Troglodyte album was real!

Billypar Great review! Apart from the horror aspects, I love how it portrayed being a music fan - e.g., Troglodyte doesn't just predict the future, it's what Kris summons to get through her ordeal. And the scene in car with the two leads bonding over Dolly Parton let a little light into the otherwise bleak series of events. 1y
