In one way this book is exactly what it says it‘s about but in another way I feel it‘s lacking &too surface level. I feel the latter has more to do w/me than the book. I didn‘t know of McKinney or her podcast previously; I was drawn to this book b/c I‘m someone who simultaneously loves &hates gossip &was hoping for some insight into our obsession w/it at a more psychological &social science level. This largely discusses celebrities &reality tv.

Reggie The podcast is effing hilarious. It‘s real low stakes gossip but the situations and where people find themselves is so outrageously funny. 2w
Kristy_K @Reggie That‘s the kind of gossip I love to listen to! 1w

“Mr.Peabody knew that he would need to teach his students a lesson about words.“

This book can teach character education and I could use the stories to discuss the impact of gossip, rumors, and the importance of integrity. After reading this book, I could also lead a discussion and talk about the scenarios where students practice honesty and and respect.

Finally finished this one. I probably should have bailed early on but I kept thinking something interesting would surely happen. It didn‘t really…

Rumors have a lot of power once they‘re generated and spread. Alice is slut-shamed at HS bc of rumors made up about her. The resolution was unusual but okay. “Repeat a lie often enough and it becomes the ‘truth‘” is called the truth-by-repetition (TBR) effect.

slategreyskies Wow, I‘d never heard of that TBR before. I mean, I‘m familiar with having that done to me, but I didn‘t know there was a name for it. Thanks for that! ♥️ 11mo
Eggs @slategreyskies Glad you liked it☺️ I think we do it to ourselves, in our own ways - embellish or diminish memories or interpretations of events - until they become our ‘truths‘. 11mo

A quick and easy read. Worth the read you feel for the main character. 🌊
