The Towering Sky | Katharine McGee
post image

Avery Fuller was dead, and the girl who‘d been living her life for eighteen years couldn‘t wait to learn who she really was, underneath it all.
She turned her profile toward the airline counters and walked boldly into her future.

This one really fell flat for me.

The plot was a cut and past of the previous books in the series with only a slight variation in the exact location of where things went down. The characters have had no growth throughout the series and it‘s made extremely clear in this one. I wouldn‘t continue and read the last book in this series but as I own it and Specials was supposed to be the last in the series I do plan to read on and see what Extras adds.

A good dive back into this series. It‘s interesting how much of this is still relevant.
I think Netflix did a pretty good job overall of bringing this to screen.

Very interesting book about the emerging markets, technologies and economies that will shape the next century. Very simple, well written and easy to follow.

I just like how Robin Sloan‘s mind works AND I really enjoy books where I have no idea where we are going (as long as I‘m having a great time getting there)

Pickpick

Told from the perspectives of a teenage girl and her parents, this is the future, but it‘s also the past. Her parents frequently tell her stories of what it was like before, how hard they had to fight, and how that progress is still so delicate due to the continuing capitalist greed of the fossil fuel industry and its climate criminals. Life looks radically different and is not easy, but together, humanity pulls through. When violence breaks⬇️

JenniferEgnor out and climate criminals are killed, the delicate family splits, and the clock is ticking for them to find each other again—but there will be a price. This book asks, when will we do something? What will it take for us to DO SOMETHING?! What kind of world do we want to live in? The one we are living in now is dying, at our hands. The time to act is now. An intense, moving read fitting for this moment. How will we respond? Choose wisely. 2mo

Taking a moment to brag & would love to hear what you‘re proud of—Two weeks ago I spoke about sustainability in maritime at 3 separate events. I was particularly proud of the Tulane Future of Energy Forum panel as the only woman & with three men who are CEOs. They took great photos, an event YouTube page with the 28 sessions & our panel made the cover!

Progress is fragile. Revolution is a delicate bird. We think we have fixed everything, but the old world – the destroying classes – they will roll it back the instant they can. They are trying. Are you listening to me?

Not the tagged book. Buried in my Audible library was this short story, Yard Work by David Koepp. Kevin Bacon narrates the tale of 88-year-old Judge Calvert, who‘s recently widowed. His wife dying first was completey unexpected and not what the two had planned. To escape the memories of his wife, Judge moves into his cabin on the lake.
