Kilroy uses non-realism-gothic & folktales of the devil-because the story it tells is too outrageous for realism. This novel's most outlandish moments are often real events: In the Celtic Tiger period of rapid growth in Ireland, the middle classes used one mortgaged property as collateral for the next. The fraud depicted in the novel regarding property and corrupt politicians is true also. want to understand mass delusion? read this novel
So remember AGES ago when I said I was going to focus on books in #TheVault? That‘s what I call my Kindles because many times the books are “outta sight, outta mind.” Yeah, that didn‘t happen. In addition to those, I‘m making a concerted effort to tackle books that have actually been staring me in the face for years too. This is one of those books. It‘s a CHONKSTER. Over 500 pages and the font was like 8 point. My bleeding eyes. 👇🏼👇🏼
Got on the subway to head to the airport and upon opening my e-reader discovered it had crashed. Once at the airport, I discovered I can't use wifi to reinstall the software AND I forgot to bring its charging cord. $20 and 30 minutes later, it's still very slowly syncing content through the laptop. 🤞🙏
Interesting, informative book on the 2008 financial collapse. Not so dense or technical such that a layman (like me) can't understand it.
