Pickpick

Existential story and discussion between 2 opposing forces, not unlike the premise of Samuel Beckett‘s Waiting for Godot. The two opposing forces are 2 men: one named Black and one named White. Purposefully spare yet metaphorical prose.

I could not pick a favorite novel by #CormacMcCarthy. But these had more post-it notes and underlined passages than my copies of other books he wrote. So, I will go with these. RIP, Cormac. Thank you for persevering…

In preparation for the upcoming release of The Passenger, I‘m tryna knock out the last few McCarthy books I haven‘t read. Went back to his debut with The Orchard Keeper and was rather underwhelmed. It was a pretty forgettable Faulkner clone with some ridiculously overwrought passages and very thin characters and a seeming lack of any message or point. A far cry from Blood Meridian. 😒 For my full thoughts, see here:

Pickpick

My most recent read was The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Finished it a few days ago. I had always liked the film, but never read the book.

A father and young son walk through a barren, post-apocalyptic wasteland, journeying to the coast.

This tale is heart-rending, frightening, and bleak—but beneath the doom and gloom there lies an undercurrent of hope and pure love. A tragic yet touching story.

Pickpick

Both cryptic and poetic, I am baffled and amazed at how thoroughly steeped in the landscape I became, while not certain I got it all. McCarthy tells a story where all the bits might fit together, but he‘s not too concerned how much is made of it, because his writing is sure that a story is there.

This was not the right book for my current state of mind. While I generally love McCarthy‘s trademark vagueness in style and content, this was too much even for me. In fact, I barely knew what was going on at most points in the story, let alone which character the focus was on. (And yet, as always, I enjoyed McCarthy‘s evocative descriptions and odd similes.)

Only a tiny way into this prosaic, albeit rather violent novel. His style is just terrific. He has a gift for making your heart connect to the emotions he describes. Interested to see where this is all heading. #cormacmccarthy #bloodmeridian

Graywacke Prosaic and violent to extremes. Enjoy! 6y

Brilliant storytelling, the wording and imagery he creates is just so vivid.

He writes in short chapters and it just keeps you wanting more, I read this book in a few sittings.

It's one of my favourites. It's gripping, scary, heartbreaking, and beautiful.

❤🔥

This will be my next McCarthy book...

He's a brilliant author!

The Road is one of my favourite books of all time.

Blood Meridian, absolute classic!

It's a pity I watched this movie years ago, I like to read the book first! 😏

I'm sure it'll be great though! 😌
