While it wasn‘t my favorite of the series, I enjoyed the restaurant scenes, the hair salon, and even the drag club. Plus, as usual - recipes! Butter pecan cake, smothered pork chops, collard greens, and purple rain iced tea. The food scenes and recipes are hard to resist. Look forward to the next entry.

A fun and witty genre-smushing urban fantasy/police procedural! A detective gets introduced to London's paranormal underworld.

The narrator for this was perfect. I fell in love with his voice for Peter after only a few minutes. And the other voices were as individualized as the characters were.

I loved that London was a character by itself in this, the streets, the people, and the magic. ????? #charactersofcolor

CW: child death, chap 2

BookmarkTavern Also, completely not serious question, but is Peter's constant focus on sex what it's actually like for non-ace people? Thinking about getting laid that much just seems exhausting! 😂 6y

If you've ever wondered what the kids who have to go to school with The Chosen One do during The Plot, this is for you.

I may have a thing for hella sassy narrators who deal with real world problems on top of supernatural shenanigans.

A loving satire of the YA paranormal genre and tropes. And it shows a story doesn't need to have world ending stakes to be powerful and fun.

Utterly delightful. Is cozy sci fi a thing? I'm declaring it a thing. Relationship driven more than plot, but deftly avoiding manufactured internal conflict for drama's sake.

An optimistic utopia but with a recognition of different cultures' dark pasts and present.

Found families, aliens that are ACTUALLY alien, misunderstandings that are resolved because everybody was a goddamned adult and TALKED.

This was a lot of fun! Steampunk ladies in the Wild West. It felt a little shallow with the characters. Mostly I just wanted a lot more from this book.

There were a lot of slurs used by the narrator though, which I get, set in the time it is, but I felt uncomfortable every time one came up.

And I instantly went to Wikipedia to look up Federal Marshall Reeves, a totally awesome and real person. #lgtbqcharacters #charactersofcolor 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑

I feel like I owe this book an apology for judging it so harshly because of its cover.

Lord of the Flies but with beauty pageant girls. A fun satire on capitalism and pageants and reality tv. A little over the top sometimes, and really what the hell were those pirates about, but a funny listen dealing with racism and sexism.

Libba Bray's narration earns this an entire star just for her voices. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑 #lgbtqcharacters #charactersofcolor

You know what you can do with a surprise shift extension to 12 hours? Listen to an entire book that just came in on Libby.

It took me a little longer than I feel comfortable admitting to realize this was 100% not related to the movie.

Overall, this was a charming and moving book. And I'm really looking forward to more Leigh Bardugo. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑 #lgbtqcharacters #charactersofcolor

Now, back into the fray with Origin. After I sleep for 10 hours.

This was just as much fun as the last two. I really just love the relationships that exist between all these characters, and I loved learning more about the back stories of the rest of Floor 19.

I'm usually not a fan of the "love solves everything" bit, but it worked really well here for me, and I felt it was set up pretty well too.

I think perhaps one of my favorite things about reading Rick Riordan's books is watching his writing evolve and grow, and not just his skills and strength as a writer, but in terms of diversity as well.

He's moved on from sad gay subtext for one character and the implication of PoC to almost everybody is LGBTQIA and/or PoC. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑 #lgbtqcharacters #charactersofcolor
