Repost from @WildAlaskaBibliophile

My attempts to make a book title past tense #PastTenseBookTitle

- Everyone Pooped
- A Grape in the Sun (I don't know if that quite fits, but I thought it was funny 😜)

Ruthiella The grape/raisin is great! 😂 3mo

The Big Bath House | Kyo Maclear

Pickpick

⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐5 ⭐
This book is about the author‘s memories of her time spent in Japan. Where big group baths are common. This story is lovingly told and would be fantastic at story time if Americans weren‘t such small minded people who bring shame to everything. Because this book has illustrations of naked women. It‘s not to glorify and it‘s not to be lustful. It‘s to say bodies are human, bodies are normal. And that being around others bearing your

LibrarianRyan body is culturally relevant. This book is wonderful and it‘s such a shame that some kids will never get to read it. 13mo

I love giving this book to kids. They always love it. Here my granddaughter is trying to repeat the reading to her dogs Luna and captain who seem equally enthralled. #dogsoflitsy

Skulls! | Blair Thornburgh

A continuation of my last post: more spooky Storytime books!

I want to take a moment to specifically acknowledge Skulls! by Blair Thornburgh. I don‘t think it gets enough attention & it‘s WONDERFUL. It‘s a nonfiction picture book about how skulls & skeletons aren‘t scary; everyone has a skull in their head! It‘s got a silly, sort-of morbid humor & conveys factual, scientific information in spare, simple text. Plus, the illustrations are fab!

Librariana I ❤️ Skulls! Am pretty sure I read it for a storytime before joining the dark side (AKA. Collection Services/Acquisitions) 😉 2y

Yes! No!: A First Conversation About Consent | Megan Madison, Jessica Ralli

Pickpick

3 pages of paragraphs and a helpful website firstconversations.com as well as more books in the same vein, this is really a picture book that supports healthy families. I've tried adding books like this to my library only to have my principal pull them because there's a penis. No one tell her about the Sendak or Carle book 😇. Check out the website, it's a great resource for new parents and families.

Hosted a great PRIDE Storytime at our local sheep pasture today. 🐑 🌈 📚 Tagged is one of my favorite reads of the day!

LiteraryinPA This sounds great! It‘s also cool that you have a local sheep pasture. 2y
monalyisha @LiteraryinLawrence Yes! I don‘t live in the same town I work in but it‘s lovely (& totally worth the 45-minute commute). 💓 I‘m lucky I get to split my time between two stellar communities. 🌟 2y
ReadingRachael Oh my goodness, I love the stuffed toy! 2y
monalyisha @ReadingRachael She was originally a footstool! I found her languishing away in the attic & held a naming contest at the Library. Patrons chose to call her JK Growling, which I was nervous about but have actually come to love. It was a little awkward bringing her to a PRIDE event given her namesake but I like to think we were reclaiming the narrative — putting JK in the place she always *should have* been standing. 2y
ReadingRachael Love the story (and the tutu) too! ❤️😄 2y

The Big Bath House | Kyo Maclear
post image
Pickpick

Based on the Kyo Maclear‘s experiences of being of mixed heritage, told from the POV of a child recounting the joys of visiting her grandmother in Japan, chief among them a trip to the local bath house with aunts & cousins. Gracey Zhang‘s ink brush & watercolour art captures the moods—wet & splashy indoors, quiet and refreshed walking home afterwards. A celebration of family traditions & of female bodies. #Canadian #picturebook #kidlit

From the author‘s note:
As a child, I spent July & August in Japan at my grandmother‘s house. My grandmother & I didn‘t share a common language, but we shared rituals, a sweet tooth & a love of bathing.
Because of the bath house, I grew up surrounded by naked bodies of all ages, shapes & sizes. The idea that bodies should always be private & clothed wasn‘t the norm & part of my hope with this story is to share & celebrate this other way of being.
