This series of books has taught me more in 600 pages than years of history class. I believe I knew what the civil rights movement was about, and what things were up and what was down, but this book has shown me the errors of my ideas. I say it here and now, this series of books should be taught in school. Full review on Goodreads.

Bookzombie I absolutely agree with you! 8y
brilliantglow I agree. I was never really taught anything about this civil movement I hadn't ever heard of most of the people involved excluding Malcolm x and Dr. Martin Luther king. I think mostly due to being Canadian this is left out of our history classes because it isn't Canadian history and most of our world history lessons revolve around wwi and wwii. I learned a lot from this series and think it's a great tool for teachers. 8y
LibrarianRyan @brilliantglow I'm in the us and this is our history, but we still don't learn about it in school. Such a shame. 8y
brilliantglow Can't make the government look bad. It reminds me of the saying about history only being told from the winners perspective. 8y

OMG! Why did I not read this book sooner. I love that it is the true story of Sue waiting on her father to come back from Viet Nam without even really knowing what Viet Nam is/was. Normally when I think of Ms. Collins, I think Hunger Games or Greagor. Full review on Goodreads. #beatthebackliat #Hermione #y
