Pickpick

A hard book to review because I see some faults in it (it‘s repetitive & sometimes contradictory) but I admire Gabor Mate and agree with everything he says regarding attachment and parenting. I love that he says ‘don‘t parent from a book - not even this one‘. He argues that we‘ve lost some of our natural instincts and because of this, & the way society is, kids have stronger attachments to their peers rather than adults which causes problems.

L slept like a log from about 6 weeks to 4 months old and has been alternating between good nights and bad ones ever since. So I started this one. It describes the sleep cycles of babies and how to find the most realistic and suitable arrangements for you and your little ones. So far so good...

MallenNC Good luck! 6y
LibrarianJen I never had trouble with the kids sleeping as babies, but now my 2.5 year old daughter gets nightmares and sleepwalks. 6y
EchoLogical @LibrarianJen Oh man. Poor baby. Any recommendations from her pediatrician? 6y
LibrarianJen He said it‘s actually normal for her age and she should grow out of it. Her dad used to sleepwalk when he was little too. 6y

This book had some great points and tips on how to parent in everyday battles but some chapters I found rather repetitive and unnecessary

Theshadedbuffalo @gradcat thank you! It‘s a small class this time, but I‘m very grateful that people have that faith in me. 6y
gradcat @Theshadedbuffalo I do indeed have faith in you, but I don‘t have any children, alas! 😱 6y

As a parent educator, I still feel hypocritical. How can I teach others how to have loving and respectful relationships with their children when I struggle daily to maintain a healthy relationship with my own children? The key is progress, growth, open-mindedness, and education. I will never stop learning and growing for my children, but mostly, I will never stop growing for myself.

Eggs Truth 😌 6y
akckitty I agree with @Eggs . It‘s always a work in process to maintain those relationships 6y
KristinaRay You worded that perfectly. 6y
