4⭐This book is all about what you would pack in your suitcase if you were an immigrant. It‘s about the things one leaves behind and what one brings to say hi New World this is me. This is lovingly done. It‘s not really about immigration; it‘s more about introducing yourself to a new people in new society and what does that well. And while this book is lovely, it rhymes, it has cadence, it does what it does well. I wish the author had gone further.

Mehso-so

I‘m on the fence between a pick and so-so. I‘ve read enough of Jacobs to know what to expect. This was entertaining enough, though maybe not his best. But not bad either.

#Irishroots #IrishAmerican #ancestry

The author, a professor of English with a specialty in Irish American studies, & a traditional Irish storyteller or “seanchai”, has written about Ireland, its history, its people, its myths & its ancient traditions. This is a complement to Thomas Cahill‘s earlier book. Each section ends with an annotated bibliography, which I found invaluable.

I switched it up for #AuthorAMonth and read Amy‘s children‘s titles. She reads the #audiobooks herself and is a fantastic narrator! I much preferred the tagged book about the cat. The story is fun, simple, and memorable. The main reason I didn‘t enjoy The Moon Lady (tagged ⬇️) was the music in the background all throughout the reading. I found the music loud enough to compete with Amy‘s voice and to be distracting. The story is good, though!

BarbaraBB I didn‘t know she wrote Children‘s books as well. I used to love her in the 90s but then somehow lost track. 4y
mrsmarch There was a tv show starring Sagwa! I had forgotten about it but now I remember. 4y

Megabooks @BarbaraBB I didn‘t either. I was either these or her nonfiction to try something different from her. I‘ve done so much nonfiction for author a month that I thought I‘d switch things up! 4y
Megabooks @mrsmarch I had forgotten that too!! 4y

This was an adorable children‘s book by Amy Tan, one I had never read before, but while my other book was on hold I decided to check it out and listen to it today on my drive. I loved this tiny tale about a spunky mischievous kitten, who after an accident is terrified of the consequence, but the unexpected happens and lessons are learned by all. It was also read by Amy Tan and delightful on audio. What a great way to start a new #AuthorAMonth
