Went to the book sale my local library was having last week. It was the last day, so it was fill a bag for $5. Yes, I really enjoy reading about history.
I remember going to book sales at the local library growing up. Always enjoyed it, since I was able to get alot of books to read.

Great fun. I was babbling on about this at one point near 40-50% the way through like I was about Poor Things. I did not expect to like it this much.

TieDyeDude The author did an excellent job with this. I have Bloody Crimes, a companion/sequel, but I haven't read it yet. 3w
tokorowilliamwallace Yes, it was a compelling narrative by audio. I was struck by the hysteria and mob the assassination caused in Washington. John Wilkes Booth was kind of both a delusional and tragic, cursed figure from what he considered himself and realized. It has me interested in the book on the hunt for the Confederate president and the conspiracy to kidnap the president, the latter of which is available for sale at my library. 3w

We need more politicians like Lincoln who accept defeat and is willing to work with the administration to transition #abrahamlincoln #impeachment #jonmeacham #andrewjohnson #history #ushistory #politicalscience #uspolitics #kindlequotes

24/150 This should be required reading for every candidate for president. Instead of filling his cabinet with like minded friends and yes men, Lincoln chose his rivals for the presidency and members of the other party to create a cabinet that represented all the people and all the various political view points. It's not hard to understand why Lincoln is ranked #1 in every presidential poll. Goodwin is my favorite writer about presidents.

RamsFan1963 Her insights and detailed research brings her subjects to life, and you go away from reading as if you actually knew them. 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (1st one for 2024!!) 3mo

This was one of my favorite books of '22. Apple has had a fairly good record recently with adaptations, so I'm hopeful with their upcoming adaptation:

LeahBergen How exciting! I loved this book. 4mo
vivastory @LeahBergen If I recall correctly, there is a follow-up to this book. I need to look into it. 4mo
LeahBergen I haven‘t read it either. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 4mo

TieDyeDude Interesting. I hadn't heard of the adaption, but this is a very good book! 4mo
peaKnit Ooh adaptation!? I enjoyed this book also! 4mo
Aimeesue Living so near DC, we‘ve been to Ford‘s Theater for the tour, which was very moving. And the nearby Library of Congress has the objects that were in Lincoln‘s pockets that night. https://www.loc.gov/item/myloc16/ 4mo
Reggie Wasn‘t there a doctor whose barn the guy hid out in? And so they prosecuted that doctor, and they just exonerated him back in the 90s because his family kept up the fight for over a century saying he had nothing to do with the assassination? 4mo

Movie: Lincoln

AnnCrystal The only movie I ever saw about Lincoln was: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012)...LOL 6mo
TheSpineView @AnnCrystal I've not seen that one! 6mo
AnnCrystal @TheSpineView Been a long time since I've seen this one. It was slow going, yet very entertaining. Good, although it didn't make it on my top favorites list.

Oh, if you haven't seen Dracula Untold, highly recommend this film. This film did a brilliant job in combining some of the real history with the fiction character we've come to know as Dracula. Dracula Untold did make it on my favorites list.

AnnCrystal @TheSpineView Dracula Untold is a 2014 film. 6mo
CatLass007 @AnnCrystal I read the book but I‘ve never seen the movie. (edited) 6mo
AnnCrystal @CatLass007 I never knew there was a book. Was it good? 6mo
CatLass007 @AnnCrystal It was okay. Maybe 3/5 ⭐️. If we‘re talking about coming up with an unusual concept for a person or characters, I prefer Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. 6mo
AnnCrystal @CatLass007 true. The movie version was interesting, just a little slow on the storyline. Oh, I saw the previews on Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. That almost had me wanting to watch it...but Zombies freak me out LOL. Go figure, paranormal obsessed me is freaked out by zombies...LOL 6mo

CatLass007 @AnnCrystal There was a Pride and Prejudice and Zombies movie? I listened to the Audible three book series. I actually haven‘t finished the third one yet. I totally agree with you about zombies. I absolutely hate them. As a general rule I don‘t read about them and I definitely don‘t watch movies or TV shows about them. I‘ve seen exactly one zombie movie in my life and that was enough. It was B&W, and made in 1968. I watched it in 1980. (cont)⬇️ 6mo
CatLass007 @AnnCrystal Since it was in black and white, the amount of gore was minimal. It actually has a good storyline. I like the paranormal, I enjoy fantasy in general, and my Mom raised my brother and me on a diet of Star Trek. But zombies? Include me out! P&P&Z was just fun. And actually, I enjoy pretty much any genre. I just love books. (edited) 6mo
AnnCrystal @CatLass007 I believe I know the movie you're referring to, never could watch. Once, caught a little scene and had nightmares LOL 😂.

Funny thing is, my number-one favorite book series sometimes have “the undead zombie-like“ Garth Nix, The Old Kingdom books. Although, they only make occasional appearances.

For me, I'm a fan of fantasy...witches, ghost, etc.

CatLass007 @AnnCrystal I forgot to tell you the name of the movie. It‘s Night of the Living Dead. And thank you for the recommendation of your favorite fantasy series. It was already on my Audible wish list but I bumped it up. Tim Curry narrates the first three books in the series. So bonus. I don‘t know if he‘s not the narrator of the rest of the series because of the stroke or if they just decided to go in a different direction. I‘ll return (cont)⬇️ 6mo
CatLass007 the favor of a fantasy series recommendation. I think my favorite is the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. The Jane Yellowrock series is complete and I like it also. Faith Hunter is the author and I think her vampire origin explanation is extremely interesting and original. 6mo
AnnCrystal @CatLass007 That's the one! Night of the Living Dead...

Now that I consider it more, the undead show up in The Old Kingdom series probably more than occasionally, yet I can't say it bothers me...I guess a testament of Garth Nix storytelling! If you do try the series, I hope you enjoy it as much as I have...oh, so magical.

Tim Curry! That's a treat.

Thanks for the recommendations! I will look them up and keep watch for them.

One of the most important historical books ever written. Doris Kearns Goodwin creates such a vibrant image of Lincoln‘s life and cabinet. 1000 pages fly by. Truly remarkable stuff.

Who would be brave enough to staff his cabinet with powerful political enemies? What kind of leader would make these enemies into friends? This was a great exploration of country, man, and politics.

Think I saw this on Litsy, sounded interesting. Audiobook is narrated by Richard Thomas, aka John-boy from The Waltons. He was a great narrator—added some drama & suspense that I may not have gotten in reading the book. Enjoyed the story, learned some history.
