I've just picked up a teaching contract for next year and I'm looking to build a little class library! Would love some recommendations of books for 14-15 year olds, thanks guys 💕

hermyknee The Percy Jackson books are always popular, and my reluctant readers seem to like pretty much anything by Jason Reynolds! @TheFunkyBookworm is a great person to follow for YA recommendations! So is @CoffeeNBooks @IheartYA @That-Bookish-Hiker and @JoScho 6y
hermyknee Congrats on your new position!!! 6y
IheartYA Where to start? Hunger Games, Divergent pop to mind. I will look at my Goodreads and give you a thorough list later. 😊👍 6y
hermyknee One of my favorites 💖 6y
TheFunkyBookworm Check out #YAWednesday .. it‘s been on a hiatus but you will find some great recs there! 6y
CaliforniaCay Children of Blood and Bone, Perks of Being a Wallflower, It's Kind of a Funny Story, Love and Gelato, Turtles all the Way Down, Speak.... 6y
CoffeeNBooks Congratulations! Thriftbooks is a great place to get used books, and if you're a teacher you get a discount when you buy 20+ books at a time. It's where I get most of my books. They have pretty good prices. They're running a discount right now through Thursday- 20% off when you buy $20 worth of books. I have several book suggestions, and I asked my students today (12th graders) and they suggested some books, also. 6y
CoffeeNBooks Harry Potter series, The Princess Diaries series, The Hunger Games series, the Divergent series, the Kingdom Keepers series, any of the Twisted Tales, any of the series by Rick Riordan, anything by John Green or Jason Reynolds, The Outsiders, Nearly Gone, Nearly Found, and Ready Player One. 6y
CoffeeNBooks I get a lot of my book suggestions from the Florida Teen Reads list each year, a list put together by the Florida Association for Media in Education. It's a list of high interest books for teens. #englishteacher #teachersoflitsy 6y

Compass South | Hope Larson

Totally blanked on #yawednesday this week, but better late than never, right?

@TheFunkyBookworm

This book and its sequel are middle grade or fast reads for older kids. Twins Cleo and Alex go on an adventure looking for their missing father and escaping the street gang they ratted on in NYC. Globe-trotting, pirates, mystery, and some thought-provoking treatment of gender differences (cont in comments)

ravenlee as Cleo, having been disguised as a boy, faces the unfairness of Alex being treated differently and being free to follow his dream. Mild romantic elements and a bit of magic. 6y

I don‘t read a lot of #graphicnovels but these two have been on my radar lately. The tagged book is a #blameitonlitsy and because the updated story of Snow White in Jazz Age and Depression-era New York City sounds alluring.
Anya‘s Ghost is because Gaiman endorsed it. 😁💜

batsy Jazz Age Snow White does sound very appealing! 6y
Kalalalatja I really want to read the tagged book, too! 6y
TheFunkyBookworm Ohh sounds great! 6y

@TheFunkyBookworm #YAWednesday they just turned this into a graphic novel should be interesting although dealing with sensitive and serious subjects this as a graphic novel could reach those high school girls struggle to communicate

TheFunkyBookworm I didn‘t know they turned this into a graphic novel! I‘ll check it out- thanks! 6y
TieDyeDude The graphic novel is excellent. I blew through it in one sitting 6y
Ddzmini It looked really good I put it on my wish list 6y

I found Rickety Stitch and the Gelatinous Goo earlier this year. It's a fun, adventure fantasy about finding out who you are. It may look a little like it's aimed at kids, but it is young adult. With the themes and subject matter, middle school is fine I think.

I absolutely loved Roller Girl. Such a great example of showing young women as strong, tough and determined and focused on things other than boys.

Pickpick

I loved this graphic novel about a young girl who falls down a well and meets a ghost who resides there. Anya‘s struggles with school and her Russian immigrant family ring true, and the story goes places I really didn‘t expect. @TheFunkyBookworm Your male students should not be dissuaded by the female protagonist—I think this is a book anyone could enjoy!

This is part of a series and was winner (or honor) of the Pura Belpré award, I don‘t recall what year.

Here is a link to an article I found back in May, I think!
