Pickpick

This was a pick with a big BUT. I picked this up expecting a light festive mystery with a few Christie references. While I enjoyed the setting and the mystery was pretty good, it was very dark. Themes of physical and sexual assault are prevalent. The fact that it's even Christmas seems more an afterthought than anything else. So, I liked it well enough, but it wasn't what I was hoping for.

Andrew65 Well done 👏👏👏 Sounds quite heavy for a Christmas reference. 13mo
Ruthiella I think I would have been taken aback also. I need to be a little mentally prepared for dark stuff. 13mo
PuddleJumper I thought the same thing. Her other book is much lighter so I wasn't prepared for the darker themes 13mo
Traci1 @PuddleJumper that's funny because I was on hold for another of hers and I cancelled it because I wasn't in the mood for more darkness. Maybe I'll hop back in line. It was The Christmas Murder Game. 13mo
RaeLovesToRead There was just too much sexual assault in this for a book with Festive Anagrams. Very tonally jarring. I enjoyed Xmas Murder Game (silly, but fun), and I'll be reading the 3rd one this year... 13mo

BookmarkTavern That sounds like a lot of whiplash for a Christmas story. 13mo

Here‘s my December progress so far! A good chunk of these were novellas, comics, or graphic novels, which helps me get through so many. I‘m still reading the last two, and hope to finish a minimum of 6 by the end of the month so my annual count will be 1000!

Thanks to @Andrew65 @DieAReader and @GHABI4ROSES for hosting #Winterthon this year, as it‘s helped me give that final push for 2022!

Clwojick @Andrew65 the app is called photo quilt, and then I use The app Square to make sure none of the sides get cropped out. 2y

I‘ve been tearing through all my Christmas audios, and although there‘s been a few duds, it‘s mostly been winners! So far my favourites are Christmas Cowboy, Puppy Christmas, and the Silver Bell Falls series from Samantha Chase. 😍 #Winterthon

Andrew65 Shows you how many Christmas books are out there, only read three of them. Well done on a great first week. 🎅🏼🎅🏼🎅🏼 2y
Clwojick @Andrew65 I know! I have another 165 saved on Scribd, 18 purchased on Chirp, and 450+ on Kindle. 🙈 I love them though. For whatever reason, I‘m much more forgiving to a bland or unmemorable plot so long as there‘s lots of Christmas cheer thrown in. 🎄 2y
DieAReader Great job🥳🥳🥳 2y
Andrew65 @Clwojick I‘m the same and thank (blame😂) #WinterGames. Love a good Christmas book and romance. 2y
