White chrysanthemums symbolize loyalty & devoted love & in Korea they are a symbol of grief & mourning so I think they are like a #WhiteFlag of sorts & fit todays song pick. This book is a tough but beautifully written story of two Korean sisters separated by war when one is taken away by a Japanese soldier as a ‘comfort woman‘ while the younger one is left behind with survivor‘s guilt, wondering what happened to her sister.
No book recommendation today.

*I‘m such a kid. When I see a white flag, it makes me think of “running underwear up the flagpole,” which used to be a joke back when my dad was in school (the year would be 1950—I don‘t know if anybody knows the joke nowadays). Then that reminded me of the Captain Underpants books by Dav Pilkey, which are set in Piqua, Ohio. I probably don‘t need to say anymore—I‘m pretty sure you guys think I‘m nuts by now.
Okay it‘s not a #WhiteFlag, but best I‘ve got in my library. In fact the only flag in my library! 😂

I read this book in college, and it is amazing! It‘s heartbreaking, but the spirit of those who are fighting for their rights is uplifting. Slaves in the French occupied Haiti want to be free and start to rebel. This is a novel, but the info in here is so good, it‘s a great companion piece to nonfiction accounts on the rebellion in the 1790s. The slaves refuse to wave a #WhiteFlag . #LilithJuly
I hadn‘t heard of this book until I was googling for today‘s #LilithJuly prompt, but it looks interesting.
