JanuarieTimewalker13 @bookaholic1 SOL was very good…but I missed Gus. When you get to Dead Man‘s Walk you will see him young, although, still LD is my fave. 5mo

I enjoyed reading this book. It belongs to my grandma, she has always loved Westerns. I enjoyed the characters and loved the plot of the book. I rated this book a 3 out of 5 stars.

Sequel to Lonesome Dove…fantastic. It comes in under Lonesome Dove, but I would say this is a must read if you loved LD. As soon as I can get to the library, I‘m getting the first prequel, Dead Man‘s Walk. #Texas #Mexico #BigBookSummerChallenge. McMurtry does women well and they are given the credit they deserve. Love his characters, love his story telling. This book was hugged, just not quite as much, but it‘s worthy.

God's Country: A Novel | Percival Everett

Per the usual for Everett, this book is amazing. It is so strange how he can make you laugh out loud about such difficult topics. This is one his earlier titles and it seems readymade for a movie adaptation; it is sprawling and the characters are always on the move. However, Dirt Marder might be a tough pill to swallow for many. I suppose that is why it hasn‘t made it to the screen.

vivastory The scene where the bandits have him dig a hole for him & his horse 🙃 😂 6mo
Pedrocamacho I know, @vivastory ! And then he continues to “dig his own grave” by insulting people that could help him 😂 6mo
vivastory @Pedrocamacho So good. Also, when they were talking about going to Cahoots lol (edited) 6mo
Pedrocamacho @vivastory Yeah, he was working on a lot of levels 😊 I mean, the dude‘s name is Marder 🤣 6mo

I absolutely fell in love with Rye, such an unassuming badass. Westerns catch a lot of undeserved criticism for being gun worshipping propaganda. This story follows the reluctant gunman, Ryan Tyler, as he navigates growing up as an orphan in the dangerous Old West. He fights to hold onto the morals instilled in him by his late parents, even when faced with the ultimate betrayal.

Book 1 of #JuneontheRange2024.

Another book finished in the hammock this evening! This book‘s taken me a long time to read, partly because I haven‘t had much print reading time and partly because it wasn‘t that compelling. I enjoyed it but never felt I just had to keep reading. Ben Sippy is a dime novelist from Philadelphia who decides to actually see the Wild West he‘s written about. He befriends the boy who will become Billy the Kid and tells his version of the story.

Tamra I‘ve read several of his books and the only gem for me was Lonesome Dove. I even love the film. 😊 7mo
Daisey @Tamra I had pretty high hopes for this one because of how much I loved Lonesome Dove, but I think that one is a class of its own. 7mo
Tamra @Daisey a “classic” of American westerns. 😊 7mo
