I read A LOT of WWII fiction & non-fiction & I especially like books set here in the islands I call home. These dozen books from my stacks are all set or partially set in Hawaii during WWII & tell the tales, both real & fictionalized, of the hell of war—before, during & it‘s aftermath. The tagged book is an upcoming novel from a Big Island author I enjoy—it‘s her third & I am looking forward to the release in May.

I read this autobiography about 30 years ago. Really enjoyed it. Not my usual type of book but it is well written.

Panic70 I‘ve always meant to read more about Murphy. (Other than info on the net) He was born in Texas so is well loved here in Military city with a VA hospital named after him. Adding to my stack. 😁 5y

Fantastic flintlock/military/fantasy!

I mean...they snort gunpowder like cocain to gain special abilities like bending bullets or sniping from impossible distances. That's pretty badass.

The characters are engaging & the action is ri-friggen-diculous! There's also a 2nd trilogy after this one that is already complete called, God's of Blood & Powder. Haven't read it yet - waiting for the 3rd book to drop in TPB.

AJackets There is another series in progress called The Midnight Front and it is a stack rec at my job. Essentially it is world war 2 as seen from a group of trained mages.... Pretty sweet! 5y

Blackadder: The Whole Damn Dynasty | Richard Curtis

#WarIsHell, but comedy writers have managed to find humour in the situation, not least the writers of Blackadder Goes Forth. The very final scene of the series is one of the most moving television moments ever.

IMO, this is one of the top books about the ill-fated Vietnam war — about life, about men who fought and died, about buddies, and about a lost innocence that is recaptured through the memory of stories. Powerful.

Nute This is one of my favorite books! I was actually surprised by how much I liked it and how connected I felt to the stories. War stories are usually touching and heartfelt, but I had no idea that it would be such an amazing read. 5y
