Got out to support a brand new Black Woman owned bookstore in town! Grand Gestures in downtown PDX is a romance books store and their grand opening today has been a roaring success! There was a line out the door from before opening! Wishing Katherine the very best luck!

Suet624 That‘s wonderful! 7d

#day1 of my October Art challenge.

The word is Gouleyant (like a light, sweet and flavourful wine).

As I am very underprepared for this, I have taken heavy inspiration from the internet for this one. Mea culpa.

It‘s delicious, horny fun, with intense feelings and surprising insight – everything you‘d expect and desire from a McQuiston novel. I loved how Theo and Kit explored sex and gender, mirroring their culinary explorations in the most gorgeous settings. I‘m afraid The Pairing has only whetted my appetite for more. This was one of my most highly anticipated releases of the year, and I ABSOLUTELY hated it! Holy guacamole, where do I start? Firstly, FOOD-P*RN-O*GY! That PERFECTLY sums up this book! There was no depth whatsoever, apart from a pretentious, pseudo-attempt at "emotional intelligence." Why, ooh, why was everyone bisexual, attractive, and under 30? Why did everyone want to sleep together in under 3 seconds and find the protags so irresistible? (1/3)

TheIntrovertedDodoBird Why was it 100 pages too long with food and wine descriptions that were so freaking BORING? Don't even get me started on the insufferable, minted protagonists that make wet paint look interesting. AND the stereotypical side characters that were so cringey and superficial. Were we really meant to find a whining nepo baby relatable? And Kit, the he's-so-deep-he's-actually-shallow, likeable or anything other than boring? (2/3) 1mo
TheIntrovertedDodoBird These characters actually succeeded in making me irrationally angry. Forcing myself not to DNF was a mistake. This book has been written in some variation so many times that it was obvious exactly what was going to happen and exactly how it was going to end. And it's SO trope-heavy! Okay, I'm going to stop complaining now. I promise. Though I have a feeling I'll bemoan this book at least a hundred more times before I'm over it. Urgh! Awful. (3/3) 1mo
Anna40 Oh no! This sounds terrible! 1mo

LeeRHarry I think you‘re not alone - I have heard very little to recommend it. 1mo
TheIntrovertedDodoBird @LeeRHarry I thought it was going to be a wildly unpopular opinion until I checked out reviews on Goodreads, and wowee, I'm definitely not alone. I loved their two other books, especially Red, White and Royal Blue, but this one was absolutely dreadful. 1mo
TheIntrovertedDodoBird @Anna40 So terrible! I usually love this author, so the disappointment is palpable! 1mo

Queer joy infuses this novel. The Pairing delivers a luscious wonder of a romance novel, perfect for reading over a weekend of lazy lounging with fabulous food and the occasional delectable cocktail. ♥️♥️♥️

I didn't like this book [1], so at least it was useful for something. #WickedWords #Wicked #Asyouwish

[1] Unlikeable characters making bad decisions including an insufferable nepo baby, unbelievable secondary characters and NPCs, and just bleah.

willaful It was very much not for me either. 2mo

I don‘t know if I love this book or hate it. It‘s about a young woman who moves to NYC, gets a job at a restaurant, her complicated friendship with a female server and her pining for an emotionally unavailable bartender. On the one hand, the writing is amazing & the characters feel so real. On the other, the plot is flimsy & everything feels too vague. Truly don‘t know if I loved it or didn‘t like it! Have you ever felt that way about a book?

Exquisite! This is the queer travel adventure you didn‘t know you needed. A wine expert and pastry chef who grew up together, fell in love and then ended things painfully find themselves on the same European foodie trip. The food and drink descriptions will make your mouth water, and the character‘s gender journeys are thoughtful and illuminating. Steamy for sure and not a quick read-one to really savor. Highly recommend!
