It took me a while to get into this one, and I eventually needed to enlist the aid of the audiobook, which was helpful in getting a sense for the Welsh pronunciations anyway, but in the end, I quite enjoyed this novel. It's definitely dated, written in 1976 with gender roles to match, but the mythology and the emotional truth of the relationships makes up for some of my grouchy feelings about the importance of learning homemaking for a teen girl.

ImperfectCJ And check me out: I've actually finished a #Roll100 title! This was 96 for me, whatever month that was. 2h
Clare-Dragonfly I loved this when I read it as a kid. I think I still have a copy; I should give it a reread. 21m

I was sad when this book ended. I loved all of the characters and, especially Brawne. Funny how this book was written 3 decades ago and, yet, seems apropos. I‘ll definitely continue the Hyperion Cantos by reading the next book, Endymion.

@eggs #wondrouswednesday

1. Recursion by Blake Crouch was an engaging story expertly executed. Top-tier sci-fi.

2. Several, unfortunately, (People Love Dead Jews (poor narration), At 30 I Realized I Had No Gender (not what I expected)), and at least one that I wish I had (Sailor Twain)

Eggs Excellent-thx for playing 💖 10h

I run two book clubs at the library I work at and this is one of our April reads. While I think this will lead to an interesting discussion, it wasn't a pick for me. I loved the historical parts of the story, but the modern day storyline bored me.

I can understand why others like this one so much. It is unique, with a mix of genres you don't normally see, but it just wasn't for me.

#Two4Tuesday @TheSpineView

1. To paraphrase Homer Simpson, we paid our taxes over a year ago. (Seriously, though, our taxes for this year are long done.)

2. Wales. (I assume it will be about more once I get into it, but for now, it's very much just about Wales and how American teens in the mid-1970s feel about living there.)

TheSpineView Thanks for playing! 2d

“Something . . .happy?” Rose asked, looking up at her.
“Yes,” the girl said softly, taking her hand. “Something happy.”

Delightful, literary, timey-wimey fun.

I read this book over 10 years ago and picked it up again, and it was just as good as I remembered.

Oh I loved this as much as I hoped I would. It‘s a time travel story, it‘s a love story, a friendship story. Read it even if you don‘t think you want a time travel story; I defy you not to fall for Commander Graham Gore.
