Mehso-so

I have mixed feelings about this book. It has some valuable parts, but other parts are a bit questionable. I‘ve never had a doctor that said petroleum based products are safe to use on the genitals, but she‘s in love with them and thinks you should be too. Never mind they‘ve been on the OB/GYN “never ever” list for ages now. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

GingerAntics The cannabis chapter was weird to say the least. The book got long winded and repetitive in places. I‘m going to forego outlining my objections to her g-spot conversation or her “all pleasure roads lead to the clitoris” line. All I can say is that she‘s muddied the waters a bit there and over simplified things (no idea why). 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 4y
GingerAntics I think this book could do with some editing and pruning. There are some valuable pieces of information here, but they‘re a bit bogged down at times. I don‘t think this is the book I would choose to start a conversation with my daughter, either. It starts strong, but quickly loses steam. #DrJenGunter #TheVaginaBible #SexPositive2021 (edited) 4y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Great review....reading straight through, I could see the repetitiveness too. I liked that it‘s set up almost reference-style so you could also just flip to the specific chapter on a subject and read that though, which might explain some of the repetitiveness too. 🤷‍♀️ 4y
GingerAntics @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I can see that, yeah. 4y
monkeygirlsmama I too have always heard petroleum jelly was a big no-no. That said, I'm still sort of intrigued by this book. May have to check it out one of these days. 4y
GingerAntics @monkeygirlsmama be careful with this book. I‘m still looking for a book that simplifies the complexities of the female anatomy without over simplifying. This turned into a diatribe or soap box moment, especially in repeatedly telling people to use petroleum based products, oil based lubricants, moisturising the vulva. It‘s hot mess in there. She could have ended it with the first section and been okay, but she just kept going. (edited) 4y
GingerAntics @monkeygirlsmama and going...and going...and going. 🤦🏼‍♀️ If I were a man reading that, I would have given up. I have the parts she‘s talking about and I ended up skipping large chunks of this book. There has to be a better book out there for us. 4y
monkeygirlsmama @GingerAntics Gosh that doesn't sound particularly enjoyable afterall. It's a shame when someone has a good premise and then can't deliver. 4y
GingerAntics @monkeygirlsmama right? A lot of people seemed to enjoy it, but it just didn‘t do it for me. 4y

Not down with this at. all.
How about, cosmetic surgery should be reserved for women who have a legitimate medical need for it and not for ridiculous and arbitrary beauty and patriarchal expectations.

Eggbeater Wow 😳😣 4y
GingerAntics @Eggbeater yeah. Not impressed. I can‘t imagine giving this to young women because of this part. How many of them are going to go get a ruler and start measuring, or just assume she‘s talking about them? Plus the petroleum based products that should never be anywhere near those parts. She may be a gynaecologist, but she goes against long held knowledge with no evidence to back up her claims. 4y
Eggbeater I can't imagine you should be telling people anything that doesn't center around body positivity. Everybody is different for f***'s sake. I'm horrified at the thought of little girls thinking there is something wrong with them. 4y

GingerAntics @Eggbeater right? Shouldn‘t the message be “everyone is different?” She says most women are perfectly normal, but then adds this. Wouldn‘t the more appropriate response, especially from a doctor, be “if you‘re concerned, talk to your doctor about it”? 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I took this part more as, people were asking for surgery for any normal asymmetry and she was saying, don‘t even think about it unless it‘s more than xyz, any doctor doing it for this or less than this is just feeding on your insecurities and taking your money. 4y
GingerAntics @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I can see that, but maybe it would have been better to just say “only in extreme cases or in situations where it‘s literally negatively effecting your physical health.” I feel like this is going to have insecure women rooting around down there with a ruler. If you‘re going to be down there, it shouldn‘t be for anything by pleasure. Just my opinion. 4y
monkeygirlsmama Amen, sister. Preach! 4y

I KNEW IT!!! I bloody well knew it!!! This book was written in 2002 (I know because I doubt checked when she mentioned VCRs) four years before I had my first reproductive exam. 10 years ago, my GP didn‘t care if I didn‘t want her to do it, she didn‘t care if I didn‘t want one, she made me have a pelvic exam every year. Even when I did my research and suggested it wasn‘t necessary, she did it anyway. MOTHER 🤬

BiblioLitten I was discussing this with my friends today!! 😮 4y
GingerAntics @BiblioLitten I think it‘s so traditional to do them yearly, most people don‘t know the guidelines changed 20 years ago now. Doctors certainly should know, though. Of course, if someone has a known issue, in those select cases a yearly exam is appropriate. For most people, it‘s ever 3-5 years apparently. 4y

GingerAntics @BiblioLitten I love that you and your friends were talking about it, though. It certainly needs to be talked about more, especially among female friends. 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa There were a few parts in here where I thought...that‘s not what my Dr told me. The one that comes to mind was the HPV vaccine, I was told I was too old to have that...this book seemed to say otherwise. 4y
GingerAntics @Riveted_Reader_Melissa yeah, I‘ve heard about age limits on the HPV vaccine. This particular bit of info I‘ve heard from many places. It seems some docs just want to money from doing it annually. All the petroleum products freaked me out. That‘s a no-no. She is literally the only doctor or woman I‘ve ever heard say that‘s a great idea. Everyone else says to avoid it. 4y

Shout out to the opioid crisis. This is crazy. So every year (every day even) all these women give birth, and 1/3 of them are given opioids and if 1 in 300 will end up addicted, that‘s at least 33 new addicts A DAY in America. No, this isn‘t a problem.

ItsAnotherJen 😳😳 4y
GingerAntics @ItsAnotherJen right? It‘s stunning to break it down like that. It‘s like, today, a classroom full of women who gave birth today, will become addicts. Tomorrow, a whole new classroom full of all new women who gave birth that day, will also become addicts. It just repeats every single day, even during school holidays and school shut downs because of a pandemic. 🤯🤯🤯 The question is, how many of these new addictions could be avoided? 4y

@julesG this makes me think of the time you told me Reading is like sex, only do it if you want to. So now, I‘m thinking of it as a reading party. I‘m not even sure if that‘s a thing, but I‘m a nerd so if it is, that would be my kind of party. 🤣😂🤣
#DrJenGunter #TheVaginaBible #SexPositive2021

julesG Reading parties are great. Can't remember in which context I equated reading with sex, but it sounds like something I'd say. 😁 4y
GingerAntics @julesG 🤣😂🤣 I can‘t remember now, either. I think it had something to do with putting too much presser on myself to read certain kinds of books because I should, but then not reading much because the books I “should” read weren‘t really doing it for me. Or something. 🤷🏼‍♀️😂🤣😂 4y

I don‘t understand. Female toddlers can pinpoint their clit WITHOUT HESITATION!!! Surely a grown man can figure it out.

Restarting sex positive 2021 right here. I‘m very excited to read this, especially after @Riveted_Reader_Melissa read it just about a week ago.
